Even the serious price would be too high. I think 30 other GMs would be interested.

I have to agree with this and for the most part, Iggy on the Hall trade. I understand the logic behind it, losing some offense from Hall while adding Lucic and gaining a shut down d man.

While I like Larsson as a player and he addressed a need it was a very bad use of assets to move Hall and have that be the only return.

This team is FAR better with hall and serviceable signed defender that looch and Larsson.

And I like Larsson. But he’s a pretty ordinary player.

I dunno why, but I just cant get past thinking of halls elite skill on a team with a developed connor and leon. I miss him dearly

Please Forgive me for my blaspheme laughs. But it’s true

It's not always about the points, well, in the end, yeah, but there is more to it.
He was shooting more, joining plays, and getting more involved offensively. Eventually, the points catch up if you continue doing that.

Perhaps they do, but at what cost defensively.

I would love to have Nurse on the Leafs, but the cost would be too high.
- Aetherial

I just can’t imagine anyone not named marner or nylander interesting the oilers for nurse +.
And of course u wouldn’t do that.

Kadri maybe

I do think if the Oil had Hall last season and any decent top 4 right shot (Demers comes to mind) they would have done just as well last season. Maroon with McDavid and Draisaitl and Hall with Nuge and Eberle. Unreal.

Larsson wasn’t having a “great “ year. Jesus.

And you guys with the “emergence of Nurse” are fukin hilarious. He’s a middle pair dman. That is what he was last year. Yes he is having a better year defensively but he always had some skating ability and some offense. He hasn’t done much more than last year.

- Iggysbff

In terms of the year 2017, yes, yes he did. 6 points in 13 games in the playoffs. Along with having a great 15-20 games into the 2017-2018 season (Sure he had only 3 points, but he was shooting more, joining plays more often, and looked way more comfortable with carrying the puck). As for after those 20 games (after the injury), he hasn't looked the same. Hopefully, this is more so to do with shaking off the rust from the injury (fingers crossed).

As for Nurse, that is the only aspect as to what I was pointing out. His defensive awareness and ability to know what to do in different situations have progressed quite nicely. No longer do we see annoying gaffs from him in his own defensive zone on a regular basis.

As for your perspective on him being a middle pairing defender last season. This isn't the case, he was slotted as a 3rd pairing defender and he had trouble holding it down due to his defensive gaffs that we all criticize him for.

Ask anyone here, would you rather have last year's version of Nurse hold down a top 4 spot or this year's version of Nurse? Easily without a doubt, this years' version. Defensively, he has developed in leaps and bounds.

There’s absolutely no doubt.

Larsson was solid. But didn’t have spectacular fancies by any stretch.
Klefbom was playing great so his job was Simple and straightforward. And while admittedly he did it very well, lots of players could’ve filled that same niche admirably .

Which is exactly one of the biggest issues with the deal.
Of course we needed a solid defender. And we got one. But u don’t trade Taylor hall for a middling, physical, stay at home, second pairing guy. It’s an awful awful trade

This guy. Just agree to disagree and let us just move on.

There is more serious matter to discuss. Like the trading of Ebs for scraps (sorry Strome). And the Reinhart trade.

Those two alone were pathetic deals.

At least for the Hall trade, we got a serviceable, at the VERY LEAST #3 defender (if we go by your opinion).

In Strome, we got what looks like a 3C/2W forward?

As for the Reinhart trade, don't even need to explain that poop.

On a side note, anyone ever thought of shifting Russell to the Wing?

I think it would actually be an interesting thing to do.

Defensively, I would rather let Theo Peckham be responsible with such a task instead of Kris Russell.

Leafs are thin at Center still. I imagine Kadri is close to the price, maybe even falls short. Tough to give up a 30 goal center on a good contract for a few more years.

I am not sure it is what the Oilers would want or need. There are probably better trades the Oilers could make.
