Even worse.

I disagree, but, I can definitely see why you wouldn’t do it.

Maybe if it's the 2020 1st.

No, I lack faith that Nyquist with be either a.) willing to resign or b.) within our team's budget to resign next year. So we'd be giving up one of our best prospects and a high 2nd in a good draft for a guy we might only have for a year.
- MaximumBone

Follow up question, what do you think Nyquist will cost with his next contract?

Also, perhaps my cap math is out of date. What is the expected cap space for the Oil next season (possible extension amounts not included)?

Then include a 2019 2nd to the 20 1st and Yammer for a signed Nyquist and Tatar?

IYO.

We’ve argued this to death Iggy. Still agreeing to disagree.

In today’s nhl, where your D has to be able to contribute offensively, a player like Larrson is not even close to being a fair trade for Hall.
He plays with Connor McDavid and he has 1 assist on the season. That seems impossible. You just have to pass the puck to him in your own end, and watch him go end to end. Roman Polak has better numbers.

5.5m per for 5/6 years at the min.

If he goes UFA, you could see him being paid as much as 7m per, term though...

Larsson is having a poop year. So is Klefbom. So is Benning.

Lack of production from the D doesn’t and shouldn’t fall squarely on Larsson’s shoulders. It’s been a problem for multiple players this year.

Precisely.

Just to clarify, the first 20 games into this season, I think Larsson was having a great year offensively (taking shots, joining plays, starting plays) for the first few 15-20 games. but after that Upper body injury, I've been seeing a shell of what Larsson was showing us in those 15-20 games.

However, if there has been anything positive this season defensively, it is the emergence of Nurse. He finally found a way to balance his aggressiveness on the offence with a healthy dose of defensive acumen. This is to say that he has finally developed a sense of defensive awareness and ability in handling defensive situations with great poise and assertion.

Just read that the players are golfing tomorrow with Katz on a preplanned get together. Should be interesting.

He had 3 points in the first 20 games. That is about a 12 point pace.

I think that falls somewhat short of a great year offensively.

Larsson wasn’t having a “great “ year. Jesus.

And you guys with the “emergence of Nurse” are fukin hilarious. He’s a middle pair dman. That is what he was last year. Yes he is having a better year defensively but he always had some skating ability and some offense. He hasn’t done much more than last year.

Your blog of deceit is terrible.

Chiarelli had to trade Eberle for cap space for both this year and next. Only someone blinded to cap reality can suggest otherwise. Eberle was struggling in Edmonton and had a horrendous playoffs to say the least.

Winger depth is the least important thing on the team and also our biggest strength for prospects. It also has not been the teams biggest or most pressing reasons for failure either.

Russell has been solid this year and worth his cap hit. With Sekera injured signing Russell was pretty simple and straight forward. Certainly better than dropping assets like Calgary did for Harmonic.

I didn't hear or read a single hockey pundit predict the Oilers would miss the playoffs.

Pretending you knew otherwise to support your rhetoric is embarrassing.

I would love to have Nurse on the Leafs, but the cost would be too high.

Historically, he was on a pace of 0.375 ppg in 2014-2015, but a key thing to look at is the coaching switch. Deboer prefered veteran defenders over young up and coming defender like Larsson. He had played only 17 games prior to the coaching switch on December 4, 2014 that saw Deboer get fired. In that time frame, he only had 4 points. Afterwards, with Oates/Stevens, he had 20 points in the 47 remaining games (played all of them and logged an amount anywhere from 20-23 min). That's a pace of 0.425 ppg!

https://pucksandpitchforks.com/2015/01/29/new-jersey-devils-adam-larsson-exceled-post-deboer-era/

It was the way he was utilized that saw an increase in his numbers, along with a sense of perception that was instilled into Larsson by Stevens.

To add on, Larsson had 6 points in 13 games in the Playoffs last year btw, and 2 of those points were game-winning goals if I recall correctly. That's almost 0.5 ppg. Not bad for a "defensive-defender." He, imo, looked like he was finally emerging offensively within the Oilers organization during the playoffs. Oddly enough, it gets brushed aside, even when considering his first 15-20 games into this season and no mention of a recurring trend.

It's not always about the points, well, in the end, yeah, but there is more to it.
He was shooting more, joining plays, and getting more involved offensively. Eventually, the points catch up if you continue doing that.
