the assumption seems to be that because Pacioretty has had a lousy 40 games, he's now terrible and worth very little in the eyes of all GMs. fact that he's one of the game's top goal scorers over the last 5 years and makes less than Karl Alzner means nothing, because hockey fans are staggeringly stupid.

im glad you see what I am saying. can't undersell Pacioretty, have to ask big and see if someone thinks he can help them go deep in the playoffs. That's a huge selling feature too.

I don't think you can put "team loyalty and locker room stuff" aside when evaluating a player.

This being said, imo, right now, Pacioretty has more worth if only because he has another year @ 4.5M after this season.

QP will be happy

1. That puts St. Louis $4.2 million over the salary cap.
2. St. Louis doesn't have a '18 1st rounder, due to the Schenn trade. Doug Armstrong won't go 2 consecutive years w/out a 1st, so '19 is off the table.
3. Kostin & Kyrou are two of St. Louis' top 4 prospects. They're 2 of the top prospects in the NHL, & both will be NHL-ready possibly as early as next season. Doug Armstrong won't trade 1, much less 2, of his top prospects for 2 years of a very streaky, declining player.
4. LW is not a priority need for St. Louis. They have a plethora of players to play the left side. The need more RH shooters.

Add it all up, & this proposal is incredibly skewed in favor of Montreal, & makes zero sense for St. Louis.


Also, Robert Thomas, depending who you ask, is either the Blues #1 or #2 prospect. Him PLUS a 1st is not even close to happening.

Agreed. Simmonds is the exact type of playoff winger any team would love. He has really found the perfect balance in his game and is constantly underrated. I'd happily take him over Patches any day.
