One of the best goal scorer in the NHL in the last 5 years vs an unproven prospect and Ian (frank)ing Cole?

I see you're just as smart in 2018.

- Scabeh

They're called "prospects" because, by definition, they're all unproven. That's what a prospect is, dummy

And yet some still have more value than others.

Almost like they've accomplished more or have demonstrated more skills than other.

GTFO, as always.

1. That puts St. Louis $4.2 million over the salary cap.
2. St. Louis doesn't have a '18 1st rounder, due to the Schenn trade. Doug Armstrong won't go 2 consecutive years w/out a 1st, so '19 is off the table.
3. Kostin & Kyrou are two of St. Louis' top 4 prospects. They're 2 of the top prospects in the NHL, & both will be NHL-ready possibly as early as next season. Doug Armstrong won't trade 1, much less 2, of his top prospects for 2 years of a very streaky, declining player.
4. LW is not a priority need for St. Louis. They have a plethora of players to play the left side. The need more RH shooters.

Add it all up, & this proposal is incredibly skewed in favor of Montreal, & makes zero sense for St. Louis.

Also, Robert Thomas, depending who you ask, is either the Blues #1 or #2 prospect. Him PLUS a 1st is not even close to happening.

I understand how you feel.

But on the other side of that coin, Bergevin is not letting go his best forward and one of the best goal scorers in the game for anything less than a similar package.

At least he shouldn't.

Perhaps Thomas, if Bergevin likes him enough and a 2nd might be enough? I honestly don't know Thomas enough to say.

Good overall post though.

Pacioretty will not get traded. Nobody will give Bergevin the return he wants for a guy who under performs come playoffs time.

Yeah, that's the biggest problem for Pacioretty.

Might be what keeps some GM to give him a huge contract too but.... I doubt it. He'll get over 7M if he puts his game back on track.

Still. A GM who trades for Pacioretty would be looking to add a guy who can help his team for two Stanley Cup runs. Is that really the case for this particular player?

...or is it a Kessel situation, where the player thrives when the focus of attention is off him?

Where in the Sam Hell did you come up with that Nashville trade?!? I MIGHT offer Harry Z, a 7th Round '19 and a ham sandwich for Pacioretty...Or I take my chances without him. No 1st rounder and no star talent. Remember Erat for Forsberg?? Star talent stays in house. Especially at forward.

Some Habs fans may overvalue him, but I think you go a wee bit the other way around.

He's scored 39,37,30, and 35 goals the last 4 seasons. Yes, he's been struggling so far this season, but if you give him a offensive minded and skilled center worthy of that name, I think you would see his production rise.

If he is traded...I say he goes to the NYI, Snow will need to go all in or trade Tavares

Yeah, Smilie went a little overboard on every trade imo....

But he's not wrong about the fact the Habs should be asking for alot for Pacioretty.

- Scabeh

im glad you see what I am saying. can't undersell Pacioretty, have to ask big and see if someone thinks he can help them go deep in the playoffs. That's a huge selling feature too.

Look, I get I asked for the moon. But that is what needs to be asked at this point and it has to be the goal. I don't care if ppl think im crazy or if its the worst blog ever. I wrote it to create discussion and get ppl chatting.

Pac will be dealt. So, let's have some fun talking about it is all im saying.

Now, return to calling me crazy

From Corey Pronman:
Robert Thomas, C, St. Louis (20th overall)

Robert Thomas has been fantastic all season long. He was great at the Blues' camp, he was great at the Canada-Russia series and he has put himself in the argument for the top player in the OHL. “He really controls the game. We have the puck 90 percent of the time when he’s on the ice,” said Rick Steadman, London’s assistant coach. Thomas stands out in so many ways and doesn’t have a glaring weakness. “He’s a very complete player,” said one NHL scout. While he was picked later, Thomas should be considered among the top OHL players in his age group, alongside Owen Tippett, Nick Suzuki and Gabriel Vilardi.
