You gotta give to get in trades, no GM is perfect. He’s made some mistakes but they’re irrelevant in the big picture. Since he’s taken over the big picture looks a lot more promising.
- Nucker101

Getting a teasing peak at a future line of young talent in Boeser Bo and Bart and then having the season crash that would most likely been a middle of the pack finish is a disguised blessing. More high 1st and 2nds added to a respectable prospect pool with a couple of elites in the mix already.

Still nice to know Benning can find elite talent even without a tank. We got Boeser out of a league top 10 finish. Makes me horny for a later 1st rounder added this season.

I’m willing to admit I was wrong. He’s brought in Boeser/EP/Gaudette/Virtanen/Demko/Dahlen/Juolevi

Got rid of Lack, Garrison, Kesler, Bieksa, Hansen, Burrows and won all those trades.

- Nucker101

Kesler is debatable.

What is to debate?
Hands were tied & over a barrel at the time.
Was not an open market to get the most.

I can never tell when your serious or joking anymore.
I know you would have taken Ehlers over JV 10x/10 even if JV becomes the 20g guy we all hope he can be. But the rest of those picks were actually solid.
The Kesler trade is the only one I think your joking about there as not matter what we were going to lose that trade, but he made the best of it at the time it seemed(FA still wanted to compete so he focused on getting some pieces that wouldn't weaken us too much). Garrison we lost because we flipped it for Vey...

I agree we were gonna lose on Kesler.
Now wtf happened with Drouin & Duchene is a whole other screw up. MB & Dorion make JB look a genius & then some.

My pick was Ehlers but i said at the time JV was ok after the fact.
I had Sergachev over Tkachuk.
Had Mittelstadt over EP.

I wanted JV too, mostly because I thought Ehlers was too soft and at the time, we had enough soft players on the roster. I still think Ehlers wouldn't have been as successful here as he is in Winnipeg simply due to the roster not having a playmaker (beyond Hank who was declining rapidly at that point).

Also, I thought if we passed over JV, it'd be another example of the Canucks not wanting to draft homegrown talent. I admit to still being influenced by the picking of Gaunce over Sissons the year before.

JV is taking huge strides after struggling under WD, he’s following in Kreider’s footsteps. He’ll never score as much as Ehlers but a 20 goal forechecking beast is a solid pick.

Kesler trade turned into Gudbranson + Sutter..hardly a ripoff

Now i just wonder what we will get for GUddy. If Sutter could stay healthy that would be nice as well.

I do think JV would be a good LW for EP. Would make more room for BB and EP and has been a good netfront presence on a scoring line.

If JV ever gets some speedy talent to play with he will show his skill set better. As we currently stand our roster stifles his true abilities. No rush & all in good time.

JB had one team to trade with. I'd like to think if there were a reasonable list of teams that Kesler would accept, the return would have been better... probably. Bounces

McCann being linked to that trade sours it also. For JB not to be embarrassed by the Gudbranson deal, we need a return in a trade that has more impact than McCann would have. If he stays a depth player... well, maybe JB pulls a better prospect out of the draft or someone's prospect pool. Cole Lind was found in the 2nd. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns into a better player so my point is Guddy still could end up being a improvement on Mcann down the road... the time line will be stretched the hell out... but will still add to the future. He could land a late 1st with a verbal agreement for a contract.

McCann is about as useful as Shinkaruk.

Lind is likely going to be a 20+ goal 2nd liner.

Gudbranson should fetch a 1st alone or 2nd + Dahlen type prospect

That is too much, as a draftist, I would prefer a 2nd and 3rd. More chances at getting good prospects.😁
