agree with you, goals for or against wont change much, luck has something to do with it, all make turnovers, ending up in the net is a matter of chance and luck.

why dont they sit Patrick? because he was a top pick is part of it. Again, at the very least Sanheim should have played yesterday or he shouldnt have been in the AHL

- wcorvette

Because they don't have a safe, low-risk/low-reward superstar like the great Boyd Gordon to play 2 minutes per game.

Patrick with some exceptions plays a solid game away from the puck and normally exercises good puck management. The Flyers also don't have a viable replacement for him at center unless they want to move Giroux back to center and I don't see that happening. The Flyers right now have 7 NHL defenseman and the 6 playing are currently better players than Sanheim is.

Agree.

And Manning is not playing bad for those that keep trying to say he is.

Also as an AHL defenseman he was an ok point producer. I can understand why they want him on the 2nd PP right now. Also if the 2nd PP in on the ice when the penalty is over, which is usually the case, then you have two defenders already out there instead of a forward trying to get off quick.

It gets old reading the same things every thread.

I would love to see Sanheim playing but I also understand what the coach is doing. This isn't going to kill the kid. If it does then maybe he wasn't the guy we thought he was. Every player will hit some adversity. Once he gets back in i am sure we will see a player that shows more attention to playing without the puck.

dont agree he playing any worse than our bottom three D, agree his mistakes end up in the net. I would be ok with Playing him in the right game and right match up, better skating teams he should play. last year he started out so so in LHV by year end, after playing through the learning pains he was a top D.

Good fun games to watch over the weekend. Their biggest victory IMO was closing out the season series against STL since we hold their #1 pick.

not so much, his minutes have been sheltered and low, he doesn't play in crunch time. I personally think he is playing ok and just needs minutes. In theory you could put Lehtera at 4th line center and Laughton to 3C, I wouldn't but that is similar to Sanheim, I get they have vets on D and it makes it easy to sit Sanheim

great catch...

For those who don't like the trade I guess a season sweep of Schenn should make them feel better.

You can not agree and I respect your opinion but in terms of effectiveness Sanheim is clearly 7th on the depth chart. Manning is simply a better player right now. I don't expect that to be long term but that's just the way it is right now.

He was loaned to another team in the SHL and is apparently going to play quite a bit. He has been working to come back for some time now. A few other random sentences that don't translate from Swedish to English well.
- YuenglingJagr

So what was the entire deal with him?

Real brutal knee injury, then re-injury? Big surgery a few months ago....now we're here? Why did he get loaned to another team? I thought he was his team's starter?

The whole issue is really hard to read about. I've googled hard through the last few months but have come up empty every time

Would have been a better trade if we didn't trade him straight-up for Lehtera.

The way the defense is set up now he really isn't going to see more minutes unless something happens to one of the top 4.

I understand wanting to see Sanheim play. I do. But I also think Manning is playing well.

He's playing like all young D play at times...Inconsistent. He's going to have to play through some of his inconsistencies and the Flyers are going to have to live with it. I'm a little surprised he didn't slide back in after the Pittsburgh debacle but I'm sure there's reasons Hak had. My argument is simply to suggest he is easily one of the top 6 D man already on the team, that had a rough patch that all young D go through...some more then others. I'm sure one way or another he will be back playing shortly.

Yeah it is really annoying. I haven't seen anything about a big surgery that kept him out an extended period of time. It sounds like he has just been trying to recover for the last couple months. Bryans has Rautio so they were sort of 1A/1B. I saw some tweet that the loan is contingent on him playing a lot so we will see. It all sounds positive.

Hoping/assuming that Bill will have an update on his next blog

with Manning you know what you get....same with Macdonald for the most part. Sanheim has the talent to easily supplant all but the top 2 in minutes but that only comes with the coaches confidence...Sanheim has to earn that still.

This might be true if the team wasn't at least competing for a playoff spot.

I have a question. If your still in this area of the standings when the TDL comes up and someone wants Filppula or Simmonds, hypothetically for packages that you want, do you make the deals?

Are the packages more heavily weighted with futures or with current NHL players?

I think Filppula would be more toward futures. But i would think Vecchione could be a 3rd line replacement and Patrick moved into 2nd line role.

Simmonds would be more of possibly a young roster player, 1st rounder and possibly a prospect.

So, 3-1 in their last four should mean a non-cranky thread.
