I think that is right but it's more too

Prices
Times
Bills hype
Sabres suck
Concessions
Parking
Weather
Oversaturation

It's all these things

- jcragcrumple

Oversaturation explains the low Canadian attendance, not local attendance.

The prices were affordable as I explained multiple times.

They did not jack up prices for parking. I park in the same lot every Sabres game for $8. I parked in that same lot for WJC games every time I went for $8. Prices for the lot near Helium/Cobbleston were $10, as they always are for Sabres games, and $20 at Harbor Center, as they always are for Sabres games.

We have a deep freeze ever winter, and it rarely hurts Sabres attendance, even when the team is bad. The only exception was that San Jose game during the November storm.

Bills hype affected one game, New Year's Eve.

Again, every US game was played during a primetime slot except for the outdoor game (which drew the biggest crowd), and the semi-final.

Concessions are what they are.

I miss wwf superstars followed by American gladiators. Sprinkle in some X-men and spider man and my life was way better then it is now.

Why does that explain 1 but not the other?

It seems like you're more interested in bashing fans than really understanding why turnout wasn't great.

There were also 44k at the outdoor game

Honestly, people actually buy concessions?

I've been going to events on a full stomach for years and limiting my purchase to a couple beers and maybe some nachos from the beer munchies but I never spend more than 15 bucks on concessions, if that.

I'd be willing to bet a good 35k of them were Canadians who wanted to see an outdoor game.

Alternatively, our hockey-rabid fanbase could have used holiday gift money to attend these games, ask for tickets as presents or their parents could have done right as a consumer in "Hockey Heaven" and bought the tickets for their kids.

The "Buffalo is poor" rhetoric is a valid reason, but the "penny-pinching during the holidays" reason doesn't hold true, IMO.

- BeadyEyedDouche

You really think kids care about these games? or even know about them to ask for tickets to these games for Christmas?

I was actually hoping TSN or somebody would do that, and that it would reach the Buffalo News. If there is one group of people that outdoes Buffalonians when it comes to exploiting inferiority complexes, it's Canadians.

The fact of the matter is that there are markets in North America where this is well attended, mostly in Canada, but places like North Dakota also did very well. The self-proclaimed American hockey mecca of Buffalo isn't one of them.
- buffalofan19

I would argue that North Dakota doing well is a result of there not being a damn thing to do in North Dakota.

A pint of beer or a shot of booze shouldn't cost more than $6 - anywhere - IMO. Every major league rink or stadium that I have been to across North America is a rip-off when it comes to food or booze prices.

I drove through it last year. It's a surreal landscape out of mad max. Dirt hills with 20 foot tall flames where they're burning off fracking fields

This is true but a moot point.

English people are really good sailors because they're an island and had to be but if they weren't an island, they probably wouldn't be sailors and probably wouldn't have conquered most of the known world at some point.

There's a bar in Binghamton that's always been shut down and re-opened called the Union Hotel...

Last time they re-opened, they did a great job remodeling it and they made all of their beer cans $2.00 no matter the make.

I was slamming Coors Banquet like a madmen when I lived there at 2 bucks a pop.

How about the fact that the majority of these games were scheduled mid afternoon during the week. When everyone is working?

I dont see why its that hard to understand why people didnt go.
