Weather and cost.... bad combo.
- gordong

Yeah, bad 2 weeks for weather. -2 right now, my mustache froze in the 3 minutes it took to clean off my car and shovel around it.

To an event that nobody really cared about.
- Hatboro_Swords

Which is a shame. It is the most underrated event in sports.

TSN did a segment this morning about how the market was saturated, and that people from Southern Ontario just didn't have the interest in going to for the 3rd time in 4 years, which is probably true. However, local attendance was awful. This fan base loves to tell everyone how devoted we are to hockey, and make the claim that we are the best in the US, but for the 2nd time in 7 years, when the marquee non-NHL event comes to town, nobody showed up.

And weird times. I was thinking about going yesterday, but I was still working. Why was the game at 4 o'clock?

The whole thing was poorly done. They didn't make it a fun carnival-like atmosphere. They should have made it a whole event down at canalside with stuff to do

There are a ton of factors, like you said. I should be the target audience (18-35, disposable income), but the event was expensive, there was a blizzard one day, and they didn't give fans a reason to come down. They should have marketed giveaways, with drink specials near the rinks at canalside and different fun activities.

Add in the fact that the Sabres have sucked for 5 years and the Bills are finally good, and it's a perfect recipe for apathy

Honest question, was this supposed to be the fifth year of the rebuild?

I’m talking about the gold medal game in this tournament. I look forward to the tourney, but there wasn’t any real skin in the game for Sabres in this game. Game meant nothing to me and evidently a lot of others.

Really? I guess they just marketed it badly. I follow the Sabres on fb and I have a BN online membership and had no idea

They did all that. 716 had a bunch of promos. You could get tickets for $25 to USA and Canada games by typing in "Onebuffalo" on the promo site. It was all there. Nobody bothered to look. The blizzard affected one game. Tickets were affordable. It's an excuse, nothing more.

I found out about the Championship village via the Buffalo News via their website, and took my younger siblings there.

2012: Gregorenko -bust Girgensons-bust
2013: Risto -can't play D, Zads - trade for a guy who's starting to look like he's 60
2014: Silent Sam -busting
2015: Eichel -hit, but with no one to play with
2016: Nylander -is now being called skid mark
2017: Mittelstadt -appears to be a hit

2 of 8 in the first round is not good enough to ever stop being in a rebuild stage.

Yeah, for sure. I never heard about any of that stuff though. And what about the weird game times? Why was the game at 4 yesterday?

I was definitely apathetic about the whole thing. There was never a reason to go when you know it's freezing cold out, they're gonna kill you with concessions as usual and at the end of the day, it's amateur hockey.

Tickets should have been $5

They pushed the championship village or whatever it was called all over the place. It's amazing you missed it. I heard it every time I turned on WGR.
