I think the way to get the message to vets who are not trying to play defense would be to sit Ghost. He is the prime offender.

I'm not suggesting they do that. I think the solution is to pair Ghost with Gudas/Manning, and sit one of them each night, and move Sanheim to partner AMac and see what he's got. If you are not doing that, send Sanheim down and recall Alt when they travel.

Those comparisons are not very good. There is only two goalie spots in the AHL, and many more forward spots, but that's beyond the point.

It's not a knock on Goulbourne. It's a knock on the organization that after one loss, they have knee-jerk reaction to call up a guy who is not likely to impact the play of the team, at least consistently. I hope he does well, I really do, but I'm not going to assume he will magically become great.

At the same time, they have a lack of scoring depth, and have someone who (Lindblom) who may be able to help the team in that area. By many people who consistently watch the Phantoms, he's ready to play in the NHL.

I think the organization is saying "You guys got pushed around because you forgot how to be tough. We'll bring someone in who will show you how its done."

So choosing him vs anyone else has to do with a specific "need" rather than who is the best player. It also helps that Goulbourne is in the last year of his ELC, and in six months the Flyers will have to decide whether to spend one of their precious contracts on him. Sounds like a good reason to see what he can do in the NHL to me.

Agreed. Although, I don't think it matters as much who the pairings are as long as Ghost And Provy are separate. I agree with those who say AMac has not been as good since returning from IR. He seems less mobile, which for him is a real problem. I was watching him the last two games and wondering if he has a nagging lower body injury. I have been a Hak supporter, but the judgment of the AMac-Hagg pairing is troubling.

I don't see it. MacDonald has played solidly just like he always does. He had a few games that were sub par but that is going to happen for any player. The judgement of the pairing isn't troubling if you look deeper. The Flyers are simply trying to put together a defensive pairing to take all the heavy lifting to free up Gostisbehere and Provorov for better ice time to take advantage of their skill sets and play them with Giroux and Voracek as much as possible. People will look at shot metrics and say that the pairing is not good but it's a pairing that is just looking to survive. They have a 2nd pairing veteran and a rookie as the top shut down pair. It's all about options and what the coach has to choose from.
