Correct me if I'm wrong, but Carey Prices' contract stipulated that his nmc/ntc turned into a full nmc a year early, which means it's in effect at present.

This means that 1) he can nix any trade and 2) other teams can't 'not honor' his nmc like nashville did with PK (bless his heart).

I really don't see him moving anywhere ever. He will be luongo 2.0.

- TheMussel

I imagine Price wouldn't mind out of Montreal at this point. The NMC gives him a reasonable amount of control over a potential destination.

I say "reasonable" because I can't imagine too many teams wanting to ante up for his services who could make a deal happen. He may wish to waive it to go to pretty much any team that's willing to pay his ridiculous salary.

Elias Pettersson in his current state is worth more than Price
He's a top 5 prospect not in the NHL with the year he is having.

without retention
From MTL :
( G )carey price

From Vancouver :

Mackenzie Stewart

- classic321

No one would take him at his full rate. Even at 50% retained he is worth nothing due to the length of the deal.

2019 2nd round

More like Montral retains 50% salary and give vancouver their next three 1st round picks to vancouver for a 7th rounder pick in 2027.

Sergachev was far too steep a price to pay for Drouin. They filled one hole and created another and one far harder to fill. That trade will hurt for years.
- BOSS_TWEED

What hole did Drouin fill? Another winger pressed to play center? An underachieving french guy?

he's still a good goalie. but the contract and nmc does bring down his value. so it would be a quantity over quality deal.

i'd guess vancouver would be one of the places he'd waive for.

price ($2.5M retained) for markstrom, hutton, virtanen, lotto-protected 1st and 2nd would be around the cost imo.

If the flyers trade for Price I will never watch another Flyers game. Dude is massively overvalued.

Not a chance I do this on the Flyers end. INSANE ! You wanna give up a package like that for a soon to be 31 year old , 10 million per goaltender ? Beside, Flyers arent Carey Price away from being good , ESPECIALLY when you want to trade Sanheim,Hart,Laughton and or 1st round picks and 2nd round picks.

Yupp, insaley stupid trade to make for the Flyers. I’ve never once worried about the Flyers playing against Price. He’s an average goalie that plays in a market that knows how to hype the poop out of players to increase revenues.

In the present situation, who cares about Price and his value? Just get rid of him. Try to get the best prospects and pics you can where they are needed (#1C or Top 2D) and let the young play - Lindgren and McNiven. It wont change an iota in the end results for the next few years. But before any move, fire MB.

Even if he didn't have a contract he still wouldn't be worththat much.

Because people know he would still get a ridiculous contract in the future.

The most valuable goaltenders are guys like schneider ,andersson and jones.
Guys who looked like number 1 goaltenders without much negotiating power.

I wouldn't trade much for price even without his contract.

3 struggling players, a 1st and a 2nd.

hardly a lot of value for a top goalie in the league.

i really don't care what the habs do with him, but i think he has some value in a trade.

They would never make the trade anyway you are right but you are fully wrong thinking any team would give up a package you suggested even if half his deal was retained.

He just doesnt have zero value, he has negative value as in the habs would be offering that package to a team to take him for free.

and if he doesn't then you keep him. Trade the other guys if you want to blow it up. His contract won't matter so much anymore and you'll still have above average goal tending.

if kessel had value, price has value.

he's still a top goalie.

3 years before he hits luongo no value in a trade.

if price ever gets traded, it'll be because he demands it. not because the habs want to. all the leverage is in price's court.

I think Price would love to go back out west. Edmonton or Calgary seem more in need of his services than Vancouver

To that end...

to Edm: Price, Patches and Alzner
to Mtl: Draisitl, Nurse, Yamamoto and their 2018 2nd and 2019 2nd

or

to Cal: Price and Benn
to Mtl: Smith, Bennett, Tkachuk, Stone and 1st in 2019

then

to Philly: Smith and Patches
to Mtl: Simmonds and Laughton
