Hakstol said they are discussing whether to continue using 6 forwards on PK or contracting a bit. So I think that says they feel its about personnel and not the coaches or system.

the coaches think its the personnel not the coaches or system?

Have to hand it to Hextall he's done a good job of avoiding NMC/NTCs. Simmer, Flip, and Giroux are the only ones and I believe Simmonds and Giroux weren't his signings.

Edit: None of them were his signings. I didn't realize Simmonds has a list of 12 teams.

- SimmerDown17

I would definitely look to trade Simmonds. He's an amazing player and I love him, but sadly we're going to waste his abilities by the time we're able to contend again. I'd like to give him the chance to win the cup somewhere.

I'm happy with Laughton. I'm good with a pace of 12-13 goals as the 4th line center. I liked Leier/Laughton/Raffl but I get moving Raffl up. I am fine with Weise there as the team is constructed now but I thought he was supposed to come with Grit and I just don't see it. Seeing Lehtera/Laughton/Weise just makes me go meh. and yes, I understand the 4th line, like last year, isn't the main concern on this team. I wish it were. Doesn't change that I hate watching certain players in the lineup over younger players.
- nastyflyergirl

Laughton doesn’t grind as well as a 4th liner should in my opinion. His skill level is on point for it though. He loses too many battles and gets taken over too easily once he has it. He excels off the rush

I really don’t think Provorov has been that bad. I don’t think the d pairings as currently constructed are the best options. But Provorov is not near as bad as the stretch he went through early last year. Zero worry about him.
- Just5

My list as of right now of guys i expect and expected more from:

Simmonds
Weal
Gudas
Hackstol
Konecny(Have liked him better on the top line now)
Weise
Filppula

I can't just say one exact thing. Just they, to me, haven't done enough and have disappointed.

Honestly, I get that Hextall liked him, but I wish Hakstol would've just been hired to coach the Phantoms

I am not sure why he is deemed a coach for the young guys when most of who he has coached have been lame duck vets and a mid/late prime core group

Does Voracek seem like the most questionable star on this team. Just my opinion but he seems to make some dumb plays or just look out of place a lot for a guy who has the amount of assist he does.
- J35Bacher

Voracek always seems to be trying to do too much on the ice and causes him to make mistakes. I like him and he'd be hard to replace but I think him and Giroux are worth keeping for now unless the right deal comes up.

How would you restructure the PK? I think Simmonds needs to be taken off but not sure who would take his place.
- SimmerDown17

I believe what he is saying is they will not go with a rotation of 6 anymore so if Simmonds is taken off they won't need to replace him

Provorov is suffering from the Timonen and Pronger effect. He's carrying these bums on his back.

I wasn't saying I want to move him.

Just he seems to be frustrating to watch even with the assists.

I could see how he would be difficult to play alongside of. Keep him though. Bottom line is we need to keep talented players

I would trade Simmonds today if a good offer presented itself. I’m done worrying about him being in orange and black when it won’t matter if he’s here or not because we still won’t win a cup nor come close sadly.

Sorry for the pessimistic outlook, but half our fan base likes Simmonds or wants him resigned because he’s tough, fights, plays with grit and is hard to play against. Where the hell has that been all year? Or last night against a rivalry that manhandled us? He’s ok at 5V5 and in the neutral zone. He needs to be traded imo; whenever that is. Hell maybe it will wake up some of his teammates.

Agreed, his best years will be behind him. Wonder if the Peg, LV or Minny might be a good trade partner at the trade deadline?

Which broadcast company in the USA is covering the WJC? I've been very impressed by the boys at TSN they way the rattle off names with no hesitation. At least there is some fun hockey going on elsewhere these days.

Wouldn't say I'm worried about him but he's had a couple rough games in the last week. Mainly last night and vs Florida.

I agree that the pairing don't see optimal right now. I preferred Provorov Amac & Ghost Hagg

I honestly think 75% of the league would inquire to try to get him. But Winnipeg is interesting. Plenty of forward prospects and they are top of their division. Now if we are trading with them and we take a 1st back, id want a little more or a better prospect since they could be fighting deep in the playoffs.

I was just typing about this.

I understand why people like him but for me he hasn't been anything this year. Even on the PP he doesn't seem as involved in years past.

I know he had some great years prior to this season but this year he doesn't seem like the same guy. And I am not seeing any of that physicality that people talk about.

Simmonds has a modified NT as well. he has to list 12 teams he won't go to. Filppula list 16 teams he WILL go to.

I am just guessing basing it on the fact they are shortening the rotation....or might be. doesn't that sound like they think its the personnel?

i wonder when hexy is going to ask which vets are willing to waive their NTCs
- 2Real

Flip and Simmonds are the only ones with NTCs. I'd say odds of Flip being traded by the deadline are very high, and the odds for Simmer are very low.

Giroux has a NMC, but he's not going anywhere. He's a great player on a fair contract.

some 4th lines are speedy and some are grinders. I thought Leier/Laughton and whoever was more of the speedy type of 4th line and I was happy with it. running out Lehtera/Laughton/Weise is a mix of the skill sets and I just hate the line because they are neither speedy or gritty

I know...I am just poking fun at the fact that they might be slightly biased
