So disappointing. We turned it off after a bit. Couldn't stand to watch them win.

5) The Flyers penalty kill went 0-for-2 last night to fall to an atrocious 75.6 percent on the season. Only the Islanders (74.6) and Oilers (70.8 percent) have been worse percentage wise.

And yet the guy coaching the PK remains in place. Why?

- PLindbergh31

on the second one Provorov was lame from a shot and AMAC fell down.

so my question is, is it the coach/scheme or is it that they just don't have many guys who are good at it?

Probably some of both. It's a lack of execution and lack of personnel.
I despise how passive they are though. I see a lot of teams pressuring the points. The Flyers just sit back and let the opposition operate and show zero aggressiveness.

Remember when the Flyers had the secret formula to beating the Pens on the regular?

It was simple. They engaged in extracurricular activities after the whistle, brilliantly baiting the undisciplined Pens into eventually hurting themselves.

Hartnell was a master at this. Schenn had a little bit of this as well but not as much. Probably could have added more of that to his game if instructed.

Why have they gotten away from this? Isn’t this why they pay guys like Weise?

at one point, was it last year or early this year, they seemed to pressure a lot more but now are sitting back again.

Because the Pens are a smarter team now under Sullivan and don't get suckered into it.

Majority of it is the latter in my opinion. With that being said though, the coaching staff should be making changes. Hard for it to get much worse. They've stayed in the same triangle +1 alignment. They could increase the pressure. The Pens heavily pressured Giroux and Gostisbehere last night when the Flyers were on the PP.

Brian Boucher was on WIP this morning. He mentioned Boston and how, beyond the top 3 players, the team is full of mostly no name players and they just work their asses off. the young players.

I know its been talked about at length but once again what is the identity of this team? not slow but not nearly fast or quick enough and not big. they are certainly not consistent. I get the makeover of the team and I support that but I just want to see this move along a little faster. I want to see young players play more. I know, I know, they aren't ready blah blah blah

I think they try, but you aren’t turning Chevy Cavaliers into Mustangs.

Also doesn’t help team has taken on the identity of its HC. They play like a really poopty version of the Borg. Hard to get up for games like that as a fan, I’m sure it’s a little hard as a player also.

Wonder how Ron Hextall the player feels about this team. Seeing the lack of toughness and getting pushed around constently.
- rinaldo

obviously he doesn't see it as a problem....he's had a ton of time to address it and has chosen not to.

Stayed in my car for that interview before heading into the office. Boucher is great. Wonderful insights, not just about hockey, but sports in general. Really enjoy his work on the national stage.

They don't have one. They haven't for a few years now.

At least when the PP was at the top of the league, you could depend on that (even if that's no way to live).

Now, there is not that one thing the team can rely on to pull them out of a funk. They aren't particularly good at anything. They aren't fast. They aren't physical. Their special teams, on a good day, are mediocre.

That's partly on Hextall and partly on the coach. I get that this is part of the rebuild, such as it is, but this team really isn't good at anything.

Unless you start seeing some progress from secondary guys like Patrick, Konecny, and even dudes like Weal, this is a lottery team.

yeah i agree that being so passive isn't the way to go. our coach always had us pressure the puck hard but its also really important to be in the proper position. Sometimes I just think these guys aren't the smarted hockey players but what do I know.

if this team is out of a playoff position by deadline I just want to see them move on from guys. and at the end of the season/draft look to move Simmonds for a young player and draft pick. I just don't want to see much more of Lehtera and Filppula. I know Weise is here so no use to being annoyed by it.

Im going to make a bit of a crazy statement here.

I don’t think Hextall gives a (frank) about what the fans generally think. That’s good to a degree, but a dangerous game to play.

Or the fact that if you have 2 teams that are both 80% one has give up 100 opportunities and the other has given up 50 in the same amount of games. Obviously they are both the same percentage, but one gave up 10 ppgs while the other gave up 20.

Pretty easy to tell you which team I would rather be.. just a dumb comment overall
