The flyere called up a guy who couldn't make it out of the ECHL 6 months ago over a guy who's on an 11 game AHL point streak who was 2nd in SHL scoring 6 months ago?

This makes sense somehow?

They matter right now. See my above post. They were on an 8-3-1 run before the Pens game. They are despite the wild inconsistency, still only 4 points out of a playoff spot.

They continue to play a 20 year old as their top defenseman. Despite how good he is, he can only do so much and really is still not at the level he is eventually going to be.

Their #2 pick, Patrick, is clearly not ready to make an impact at the NHL level forcing them to use Filppula, who is ideally a 3rd line center as their #2 center.

Other young players that they are counting on for the future to bolster the team such as Konecny, Sanheim, Morin, and Lindblom, are not ready to make an impact that can lift the team.

Hagg is a rookie defenseman that they are asking to play a big role that really isn't ready for it.

They basically have one consistent scoring line, and are asking a player in MacDonald who is basically at best a 2nd pair defenseman to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Players who they were counting on to produce more such as Simmonds and to a lesser extent Weal have not had good seasons. Gudas has not had a strong year.

Hextall is basically in the 3rd year of his plan. I understand the frustration but nothing has changed with that. It's still about the future.

Thanks for the reply. However you completely ignored my question. When does winning become more important than waiting patiently for this team to develop?
2020?
2021?

A pro team can't rebuild forever. I'm still down with Hextall's overall philosophy, but it has to happen in a reasonable time frame. It may not all be on the current GM but the fact remains that the team hasn't won a playoff round since 2012. The people buying tickets aren't going too be patient forever, nor will ownership.

My dad is down In Myrtle Beach....is laughing at how 3 cm's of snow has put city in disaster mode....that's a normal commute for us. The average temp at my cottage last week was -25. The winds might be a little concerning though.

That's false. I didn't ignore your question. You asked when do results matter. I answered they matter right now.

How may players that you would consider that are part of the rebuild are actually on the team?

Ecstatic for the 15 game win streak that will follow Goulbourne’s first KO at the NHL level.

Gotta say E, I watch the weather reports and shiver. I couldn't live in that cold anymore. I worry more about ice and snow. They are NOT my friends anymore.
But get your ass down here. The weather is great.
I used to work down here with a guy always said, "if it's cold in S Fla, it's colder every where else in the country". He was from Chicago, so he had perspective!

Again, how long do you give Hextall to build this team into a solid, contending playoff team?

On 2nd thought, never mind, you're obviously not going to answer this question.

I'll answer yours though. Here are the current Flyers that I expect will still be on the roster when they are ready to contend.

Couturier
Voracek
Giroux
Patrick
Konecny
Provorov
Ghost
Sanheim
Hagg

Laughton could possibly still be on the roster as the spare center and Elliott could be here as a veteran backup. That's about it.

Ghoulborne is the kind of player people should root for. Guy busted his ass just to get an nhl contract. Has put in the work to earn his recall. Still a role in the nhl for players of his ilk.

He only has 38 penalty minutes, so not like he is playing with reckless abandon. Is a plus 8. Draws penalties.

Flyers have several issues. Maybe he can help address 1 of them.

Wow....think most of us need to take a breath and calm down a bit.

Seems to be a lot of linking the Ghoul move to somehow be tied to a miss in middle 6 secondary scoring versus what it really is....4th line intensity and a PK specialist who will help pressure the point men more.

I would like Oscar here on line 3 LW as much as anyone, but tying the Ghoul move to that feels like we are itching to start a fight out of frustration.

Its a low risk gamble on points production (as the 4th isn't producing much in its current configuration) to bring in a level of intensity that they probably hope trickles up the lineup in addition to trying to address a recently more passive PK. Some of that is footspeed and hustle.

Maybe they think Ghoul can help a bit? Maybe its a shakeup move to show nobody's spot is safe. Not sure what the real genesis is but maybe we can let it playout a game to see. Lets not forget the Islanders ice Mayfield and Clutterbuck and some other guys that aren't above mucking it up.

In the immortal words of Aaron Rodgers....R-E-L-A-X!!!

I actually think they expected to be closer this year. There have been a couple of surprises but as another poster stated there are more guys not playing to expectations. I'm fine with a bit more of the building process as long as I see these so called high end prospects develop at a rate where I see other teams young talent contribute in a similar time frame....If this team is in the same position at this time next year then I think it's fair to question whether hextall is the answer. We don't need another Edmonton BS rebuild.....

After calming down a bit, I'm fine with it. I just wish that they were bringing up Lindblom too and getting Weise, Lehtera and Leier all out of the lineup.

That's the point I was trying to make. If this team isn't in the playoffs by 2019, Hextall should start feeling some heat.

why would anyone be upset with the recall of the "Ghoul"??? He's playing well in LHV and brings an element that the Flyers seriously lack.....why not give him a look....might wake up some of the stiffs that have been sleep walking through the first half of the season.
