The hysterics in here over Goulbourne being called up to replace who I bet is Lehtera on the 4th line tomorrow night is pretty priceless. Get a grip people.

I'm pleased to see the reaction has been measured and understated by you guys after the Goulbourne promotion.

Well done all!

As long as it's Weise or Lehtera that sits because to make room for Goulbourne, I'm OK with it. Weise and Lehtera are 7 million dollars worth of useless anyway, so if the team gets a little tougher and a new PK guy, I'm OK with it.

I still can't believe they recalled Tyrell Goulbourne.

Is it possible to go back and erase old posts about how he'd never make it to the NHL?

Asking for a friend.

This teams main problem is they are soft. They need someone that will throw the body instead of stick checking. Someone that will follow through with a check instead of just bumping a guy. As much as I want to see Lindblom, Martel, or Vecchonie they don't fix that main problem.

As a matter of fact I wouldn't mind seeing Morin come up. You would have to shuffle the D a lot because he only plays one side but maybe it's what the team needs. Just a little meanness.

I'm disappointed in the play of Weal and Leier. I was expecting more from them when given the ice time. Same with Patrick but I'll give him a pass as it's his first Pro year. We just need some of these guys to step up. I don't mind the Ghoul recall but maybe you make a few more moves. Send Leier and Weal to AHL for a bit and try Lindblom and Martel.

The main problem is outscoring the other team. They could get more physical, sure. But a bottom six forward isn't magically going to fix the rest of the lineup.

I'd have a lot less of an issue with this move if Lindblom or Martel were coming up with him. That would at least address the issue of having to ice guys like Weise on the PP.

I also get they wanted a veteran guy in there so help/teach the kids. That makes sense. Its dumb that as an organization you basically settled on Andrew MacDonald to be that guy for your team for years now with no change in sight.
- flyer_nutter

So the Flyers should've gone out and and signed or traded for another high priced veteran defenseman?

Aside from the Elliott signing I've lost a lot of faith in Hextall this season. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong and does something significant but I really doubt it.

Another year of G, Jake & Simmonds' prime is being squandered. Haven't won a playoff series in over 5 years. Somebody tell me I'm wrong.

- hereticpride

Hextall is simply following through on what he has said he was going to do. What did you expect him to do? The results so far this season doesn't change anything.

No, that’s this team to the fans. And then that’s the fans right back when it comes time to renew their tickets. This is a (frank)ing awful product and shows no signs of it not continuing, and that’s coming from someone who is big picture oriented. I’m not even asking for short term wins. I’m asking for sound philosophies and an actual plan.
- Mononoke

Hextall is committed to building through the draft for the future which is exactly what he has been doing. How is that not a sound philosophy and an actual plan?

Lots of hyperbole being thrown around. They are a very inconsistent team with a lot of issues to be fixed and lot of room for roster improvement. Yet they still sit only 4 points out of a playoff spot. Before the Pens game they were on an 8-3-1 run. It's a (frank)ing awful product? Nonsense. They are a mediocre middle of the pack team who has a lot of youth that simply isn't ready. I believe Hextall will not panic and will stay the course. Thank goodness for that. That's the true big picture.

Just curious, but when do results begin to matter?

I mean this seriously, when are we allowed to start questioning Ron Hextall as a GM?

If the team misses the playoffs both this year and next should we still remain patient?

If it's April of 2021 and the team still hasn't won a playoff round since 2012, is "just be patient" still the answer?

How long is it reasonable for us to have to wait for this team to start winning again?

I like the idea that this organIzation calls up a guy who is going to take penalties.

This team needs to spend more time on the penalty kill.

It appears Hextall agrees with McDonald's line of thinking.

They matter right now. See my above post. They were on an 8-3-1 run before the Pens game. They are despite the wild inconsistency, still only 4 points out of a playoff spot.

They continue to play a 20 year old as their top defenseman. Despite how good he is, he can only do so much and really is still not at the level he is eventually going to be.

Their #2 pick, Patrick, is clearly not ready to make an impact at the NHL level forcing them to use Filppula, who is ideally a 3rd line center as their #2 center.

Other young players that they are counting on for the future to bolster the team such as Konecny, Sanheim, Morin, and Lindblom, are not ready to make an impact that can lift the team.

Hagg is a rookie defenseman that they are asking to play a big role that really isn't ready for it.

They basically have one consistent scoring line, and are asking a player in MacDonald who is basically at best a 2nd pair defenseman to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Players who they were counting on to produce more such as Simmonds and to a lesser extent Weal have not had good seasons. Gudas has not had a strong year.

Hextall is basically in the 3rd year of his plan. I understand the frustration but nothing has changed with that. It's still about the future.

The flyere called up a guy who couldn't make it out of the ECHL 6 months ago over a guy who's on an 11 game AHL point streak who was 2nd in SHL scoring 6 months ago?

This makes sense somehow?
