Thing with trading Simmonds, is if you are going to do it - why not have just done it last year or the year before when he had more value? Was this extra time with him in the organization really worth it?
Half ass rebuild. - flyer_nutter
I think his value is still high. It will just be higher for a playoff/Bubble team then where the Flyers are right now.

His value goes down every day you keep him. If your plan is to deal him, ideally its ASAP. |

Tkachuk is rated as the #1 center in this draft by most scouts though some see him eventually being a winger. Another center who the scouts really like is Rasmus Kupari. Kupari has good size, good wheels and skills and can do everything at top speed.
It's still early, but my top 10 right now would be:
1. Dahlin D
2. Svetchnikov RW/LW
3. Zadina RW
4. Boqvist D
5. Dobson D
6. Kupari C
7. Tkachuk C/LW
8. Farabee LW
9. Hughes D
10. Wahlstrom RW - BiggE
I like Kupari but I doubt he goes that high. Same with Dobson and Farabee. |

If you traded him hypothetically at last years deadline. Opposed to this year.
I disagree. The team getting him gets another season of a nice contract. |

Fair enough. But let the record show that because I disagree, you are inherently wrong. Have a nice day. |

On the contrary. He is the guru. You are not. Therefore he is correct and you are inherently, indubitably, and inevitably... wrong.

It's a pretty deep draft and really strong at the top. Most scouts see Dahlin as a can't miss #1 Dman. They also rate Svetchnikov and Zadina as impact 1st line forwards and Adam Boqvist is considered by most scouts to be an offensive dynamo on D. You are pretty much guaranteed a stud if you land a top 3 pick and you should come away with a really good player with any pick in the top 10-15. - BiggE
why couldn't we win 2nd overall this year |

I can see your point of view, but to be a tad contrarian...I think his value lies highest with the "just below" elite tier. Realistically he could be a move that might make them competitive with the likely Stanley cup finalists.
Lets say Pittsburgh makes a B level move and Columbus has to contemplate an A move to stay even.
Just a different point of view...not sure what really plays out.

Jonathan Marchessault and VGK closing in on contract extension for the pending UFA who is currently making $750K. When it’s done, it’s expected to be 6 years with an AAV of $5M or thereabouts. He’s earned it. Quite a story in Vegas, where great stories abound this season.

Does Voracek seem like the most questionable star on this team. Just my opinion but he seems to make some dumb plays or just look out of place a lot for a guy who has the amount of assist he does. - J35Bacher
somewhat but keep in mind he is the one forward that HAK will put on line by himself, meaning without another top forward. Flip is just bad right now, I like Raffle a lot but he is really a 3rd line player

I just want to see a lot more youth on this team next year. If they are going to finish with 85 points or so with a bunch of vets on the team, might as well finish with 80 and let the kids get experience. And for (frank)s sake, can we get a few forwards with some size and a little snarl too???
Come the start of 18-19 I just want to see the following traded, gone or in the press box:
Simmonds, Filppula, Lehtera, Weise, Leier, Weal, AMac, Manning and Neuvirth
Lets get guys like Sanheim, Morin, Lindblom, and Vecchs into the lineup plus some of what we can get back for trading Simmonds
This team needs to be younger, faster, bigger and more skilled. I can be patient waiting for them to gain experience and gel into a winner, but I'm tired of watching too many of the guys we have now. And for the love of God, if you aren't going to fire Hak after this season, at the very least make some changes with the assistants. You can't just come back with the same staff. - BiggE
it is true, next year the slate gets pretty cleaneable, LOL

Bill Meltzer: Quick Hits: Provorov, Special Teams, Marody and More - bmeltzer
I'm not mad at anything Provorov did or did not do last night. Don't get me wrong, Provorov had a rough night last night but I also thought the goals scored by Kuhnhackl and Reaves were good hockey goals. Reaves went to a dirty area. Kuhnhackl took a perfect shot.
What upsets me is, I felt like last night's game put more doubt in my mind of the direction of this team under Ron Hextall. Perfect example, what's always said about the Flyers after a loss to the Kings or Duck? They were bigger and stronger. So let's just stick to that idea of drafting the Frost's and Konecny's of the world in the late first round. This isn't a knock on Frost or Konecny as players, I'm just seeing a pattern in philosophy.
Hakstol, you know my thoughts. In my opinion, Neuvirth should have played in Florida but he didn't. In my opinion Ghost should never see top pair minutes, but he is. I would like to see more consistency in the defensive pairs with players in suitable roles. I think anyone of MacDonald, Hagg or Gudas would be a better fit with Provorov short term and Gudas hasn't even been tried yet.
It was just a disappointing game. |

Bode Wilde sucks (I've seen 5 of his USHL games already for the Dev Program), Tkachuk hasn't been a center in years, I probably missed something else said, what else y'all need from me prospect related before I drift off into the ether? |
