I’m with you on that somewhat. My reasoning is ppl put too much stock on a draft number rather than the who. EP is an example to go with BB Gaudette Tryamkin Lind JG.

Good teams let players develop their confidence and skill in the developmental league first, not just pop guys in the lineup cause they had a great training camp. I'm so tired of this early pattern of this rebuild of no one having to earn it. Let them pla ya full year in the AHL, do really well in that league. The only player who's been well developed on the whole team is Goldobin and that's cause he played in the SJ system already. Guys like Bo that can actually handle the pressure and get better at the NHL level are rare, most are like Hutton and Stecher where it's hard for the mto develop skill and confidence at this level. Gaunce is one of the few guys I see as actually being developed well, despite all the jokes I expect him to be a Canuck a good long while.

No, I have my beliefs on proper development and then there is the use and abuse system of development that some are clamouring for. This is disguised as a need or requirement, when IMO, it leads to wasted possible skilled talent.

Did you have anyone in mind?

I mentioned Stetcher & Hutton earlier.

I'm all for picking a D, but JV is a bottom 6 player right now. A spade is a spade, and we don't have a first line LW.
- neem55

I’m not concerned what line JV is on.
What was wrong with Sven Bo BB as a 1st?
We lacked a 2nd line not a 1st line.
Our D scoring woes only makes it worse.

Each team and players situation is unique, it's not the same for everyone, as you know.

Yes I know the Canucks have a terrible development process.

Notice those teams are contenders in the playoffs with talent stacked vet rosters. But the cap crunch is forcing more contenders to use ELC players over role vets.

Hard to have just one stead fast rule on development. Team and player needs intertwine with opportunity and it is not linear or black and white. It is very fact specific per player and situation.

- Nuck4U

Seems to me that many teams do though. The best teams in the league all have a mix of vets and young guys that have been developed in the AHL, with the exception of Vegas for obvious reasons. TB literally ALL of their top6 outside of Stamkos was developed in Syracuse. Washington is very similar, except Backstrom/OV are the outliers that don't need AHL time. Even (frank)ing Toronto has done well making many of their young guys do well at the AHL level first, despite having a terrible roster at the NHL level. Maybe I just scrutinize the canucks too much. Buffalo is an awful team and still keep Alex Nylander and Nathan BAstion in the AHL because they know they will learn way more playing 15-20 meaningful minutes per night.

Look at the Utica roaster... Demko, Chatfield and Brisbois are the only potential NHLer on the whole (frank)ing roster! it is atrocious and criminal that management is not using the AHL. Personally Hutton, Stecher and JV should play 20 minutes a night in the AHL. Goldy and Gaunce have earned it way more. Put some of the older AHLers in the lineup. alright rant over.

What's wrong with it is only one of those guys actually has 1st line NHL talent. JV plays 13 minutes a night.

The current regime, yes, they put competing and selling tickets before drafting and developing. Mike Gillis didn't really have to develop anyone because he couldn't draft well enough and he was competing for a Cup.

Previously they developed some good players.

Ok so lack of secondary scoring or D doing anything is only a minor problem. Gotcha👍
