The fact ya'll got him at 8 makes me hate you
- Pet.m.d.

He was rated right around that spot at the draft. Looks like we got a pretty special player, hopefully.

When did this change? At the beginning of the year quite a few people on this board wanted to disagree with my negative opinion of him.

Lot's of :
He scored 40 plus points in both seasons
I'm not giving up on him yet
Some guys just don't show emotion - ladanian Tomlinson didn't
He the best net front presence since Thomas vanek
He didn't pick himself second
Every gm would have picked him 2nd

This sound familiar?

- Boss34

Oh yeah, I was defending him over the summer. He was coming off (basically) 2 20 goal seasons. He s been terrible this year

I'm sure you guys have already discussed but attendance is pitiful. I was critical of attendance for USA games 6 years ago but now even the Canada game was beyond weak.

What changed? Are the prices that much higher? I know Pegula and Russ Brandon incorporated love their ticket rate hikes but I don't see them as being that out of line. Last time I met Canadians from all over that came to spend 10 days. Now our city has 3 times as much to offer and people aren't taking advantage, sad.

Only other theory is like myself I'm going to the Friday game, so seeing as how I have kids it's cutting down how many other games I'm attending in person. But it doesn't cover this drop off.

Edit: Many on twitter are suggesting that the Sabres sucked the life out of hockey in Buffalo. Not buying it. After bringing my kids to snooze fest after snooze fest, loss after loss I would have loved to bring my kids to see team USA downtown tonight for good ole fashioned butt kicking except my older boy is sick.

Im basing this just off the non adult version of me so take that for what it's worth but my 2 cents:

This tournaments attendance was largely based around Canadian attendance and parity in this tournament (long term) and lack of elite talent (short term) is the cause.

I loved this tournament growing up when it was Canada vs the world. now it's kind of just "meh" and It wouldnt surprise me if other fans felt the same way. Now im just checking out sabres prospects.

The growth of other nations fan bases hasn't been nearly enough to offset Canada's declining interest in this.

Spot on sir. I feel this tournament is lifeless right now and should be played strictly at the harbor center.

Top problem, Canada's most elite talents(and now sometimes USA's) aren't allowed to play their final year of tournament eligibility.

Second: Canada has only 1 once in 8 years after winning 12 of 20 years. Not a hood excuse for the words biggest hockey country but it is what it is.

Third: the Leafs are good for the first time in a long time. Best in the standing since pre-lockout season but maybe their best teams in many decades. They've awakened the sleeping giant.

Im curious to see what the approach with this tournament is going forward now that the NHL players aren't going to the olympics.

Id consider the FIFA model, make the olympic hockey a U-23 tournament

that wasn't in defence of mittelstadt's performance, just an observation having rewatched some of those highlights

I mean they were obviously assists but like, the guy was literally poking the puck to domi after domi curled and dragged and the fought to score the goal after.

It's only day 1, let's see what the rest of the tourney brings. Aren't group games usually pretty empty?

I don't buy that twitter thing either. A lot of non Sabres fans live within easy driving distance from here on top of the Sabres fans that live within 90 minutes of here would see these games. It'll pick up.
