Ok then let me rephrase

The fact that Read hasn't been recalled makes me believe that HEXTALL thinks they can do better with Lehtera

ffs

Thank you.

I'll give people Weise over Read due to size or whatever. I don't agree with it but whatever. Read is a far superior player to Lehtera though and it isn't even close.

Last year's solid possession metrics out of Weise was actually more of an anomaly. So yeah, I agree completely that I want him far away from Patrick.

I think its pretty clear that Read is the odd man out due to current contract situations. If not, its another concern regarding talent evaluation.

- JFlyers00

That doesn't make any sense at all. They aren't saving on the cap by the move and it wouldn't change the salary being paid out. I think anyone who thinks the contract situation would affect Hextall's decision making in that manner is badly mistaken. Hextall did not hesitate to bury MacDonald and Read. Do you really think who the GM was when a player was acquired is going to change any of that?

I'm just gonna sit back, pour myself another cup of coffee (yes coffee, I'm at work, lol) and see how many pages you goofballs can fill arguing Matt Read vs Jori Lehtera.

If that runs out of steam, I'll send you some other just as scintillating topics to discuss.

We could move on to round 18 of discussing the merits of trading Wayne Simmonds. You were involved in the last round repeating the same talking points. At least this is a new topic.

I just don't see it.

Not that I hate Read. I just don't see how much more he is going to influence this roster compared to others. Once he lost a step i think that really hurt his game.

Also the Read of Lehtera thing doesn't make a ton of sense considering Lehtera has been a scratch. Once Leier is back he'll go back onto the 4th line.

So I Read going to be that effective as a scratch majority of the time? I think there is some benefit having him play in Lehigh with the rookies.

In my opinion they like the size and versatility of Lehtera to be able to play both on the wing and at center if needed. It's not about Hextall not willing to demote him because of his term and the fact that he traded for him. Nothing to do with it in my opinion.

They're about as bad a team as I've ever seen most nights.

I agree.

I think people think that they are getting the 20 goal Matt Read which he just isn't that anymore.

I wonder who is in net for the Sabres. They beat Lehner and if it's Johnson I think he has been pretty bad recently.

Talking about 4th line dusters is nothing new. In fact it's a tradition like no other, similar to The Masters.

I don't think that.

I believe the reason Read is in the minors over Weise and/or Lehtera is due to Read's contract expiring at the end of this season. Lehtera's expires the end of 18-19 and Weise's the end of 19-20.

I don't think its too crazy to think that Hexy has already decided Read will not be returning next year, so its better to have Weise and Lehtera around due to them most likely being with the team/organization again next year.

Not trolling but if insert Read over Lehtera on the 4th line, how much more of an impact will Read have compared to what your getting now?

Also remember Lehtera is only in the lineup because Leier is hurt. So it's not like Read would be a regular in the lineup anyways

I thought tonight would be a solid night to star the backup and then play Elliott tomorrow but then seeing they have a 4 day break until the Panthers game I guess you just ride Elliott both nights knowing you need points.

Yeah, it's far from optimal, but I understand their reasoning. The points are valuable and Lyon wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire at LHV.

Not sure what Read brings at this point.
Also not sure if this is beating a dead horse based on the replies over the last few pages.

The exact impact is hard to measure, but I just believe it improves their odds of winning on a nightly basis with Read in the lineup over Weise or Lehtera. It probably won't be the difference between a W and L on a given night, but over time the slight improvement will make a difference.

I don't think most of us advocating for Read expect him to come in and be the 20 goal scorer he once was. He has shown, even after his scoring drop-off, that the team consistently outscores the opposition while he's on the ice at 5v5. And the the team continually pushes play in the right direction with him on the ice. He also could help our weak PK. Nolan Patrick is really struggling from a possession standpoint at the moment (gotten better the past few games). Weise has not been a good possession player throughout his career, and I think replacing him with Read will go a long way for Patrick. And as Feanor pointed out, Read still scores at a decent clip for a bottom sixer.
