Hilariously enough, he is the front runner for the best defensive forward because of improved scoring. His defensive underlying numbers are a giant step down from the other major candidates. He actually is putting up some of the worst defensive numbers in his career and might even be sacrificing defense for offense. But he's scoring! - Mononoke

I wish the Selke was awarded to the player who people erroneously believe is good defensively because he can't score. |

In their defense, a more reasoned Montreal fan just suggested Price for Elliott, Sandman and TK. Not optimal but not as nutso as some of the others - juiced
There is basically no part of me that wants Carey Price. Such a silly contract |

Not all that well reasoned . Deal makes no sense for the Flyers. They are not a goalie upgrade away from serious Cup contention to where dealing 20-year-old and 21-year-old recent first-round picks would enter into the realm of a realistic possibility. |

Forget our top prospects.
If they offered up Carey Price in return for absolutely nothing of value (Ghoul+7th), just to take that contract off their hands, I still wouldn't do it. I'd laugh at Bergevin (or his replacement) actually. |

Oh, don't get my commentary wrong...I want no part of that deal. I was merely saying that the level of insanity appeared to be dissipating...somewhat. |

If I felt the Flyers were just a goalie of Price's caliber away from serious Cup contention for a window of the next couple years, I'd live with the long-term cap issues. But they're not, so it's a non-consideration. |

It would negatively affect their chances of ever having serious cup consideration due to the guys they would lose having to pay Price |

$10.5 mil for the next 8 years for an injury prone 31 year old goalie is something I could never get behind personally. Of course Price is the best goalie when healthy (that something that will disappear with age?), or one of them at the very least, but it's also a position that I think is overvalued to begin with. I'm of the belief that there is no team that is a Carey Price away from a Cup. If your entire team is assembled to win minus a goalie, you don't need the best goalie to get you over the top. There's a lot of "good" Cup-capable netminders.
And at that cap hit you need to make drastic decisions regarding your young players needing contracts, current top players........it's almost impossible to build a Cup team or fit one around a goalie taking up that much cap space. |

Last year PEB received a single vote. The same number as Getzlaf, Trocheck, Wheeler, and 1 behind Couturier. |

If their window was through next year (with cap likely to rise and a potential for about $15M in cap space a year ahead of when Provorov and Simmonds new deals would kick in), it would be workable cap wise. But, again, it'd be a nonsensical deal that would never be remotely considered on either side. Montreal would never move Price just as a salary dump and Flyers wouldn't drain from their NHL-roster youth for a deal that would hurt them long term.

These Price proposals are ridiculous. No team is looking to carry that kind of a cap hit on a goalie in today's league. Let alone the length of the contract too. Good god. Their best hope to get rid of him is getting him to waive his NMC for the next expansion draft.
If Hextall were to make some blockbuster trade I think he'd sooner throw the kitchen sink at Ottawa for Karlsson. Something like Simmonds, Ghost and two 1sts for Karlsson(pending an extension of course) and a prospect.
That said Hextall as a GM seems like one of the least likely guys in the league to make a blockbuster type trade.
These proposals are always fun though. Almost makes me miss Homer. |
