That's why I hate the current playoff system. I'd rather see the 2 division winners get the 1 & 2 seeds and the next 6 highest finishers in the conference be seeded 3-8. This would guarantee that the top 8 in each conference always get in and would avoid the chance of having 2 of the top 4 teams meeting in the first round.
Edit: lol leight again - BiggE
THIS
I can't stand the "bracket" system
The old way was one of God's greatest creations. On the 7th day he rested, on the 8th day he created playoff hockey where the teams were reseeded after every round so that the highest available seed always played the lowest available seed.
It should have been enough to prove this is the best way to go last season when you had the two best teams points wise (Washington and Pittsburgh) playing in the conference semifinals. That should never happen.
But once again, the NHL proved it could take something that was not broken, which in fact was perfect, and break it.
I bet even they were like, damn, I wish this Wash/Pitts matchup was the conference final......

SPHL format would be interesting: No. 1-3 seeds select their first-round opponents from the No. 5-8 seeds. The No. 1 seed will get first choice, followed by the No. 2 seed, then the No. 3 seed. The No. 4 seed will play the team that goes unselected by the first three seeds.

Talking about adding some motivation to the team that is picked first.....

In their defense, a more reasoned Montreal fan just suggested Price for Elliott, Sandman and TK. Not optimal but not as nutso as some of the others - juiced

Kopitar is going to win the Selke - YuenglingJagr
Hilariously enough, he is the front runner for the best defensive forward because of improved scoring. His defensive underlying numbers are a giant step down from the other major candidates. He actually is putting up some of the worst defensive numbers in his career and might even be sacrificing defense for offense. But he's scoring!
