Ryan is a first line winger.
Brassard is a LEGIT 2nd line center.
You don't get two guys like that without sacrificing, especially if the Pens want OTT to retain a good $2M on Ryan. - Rinosaur
Ryan gets off to bad starts every day. He's like the alternative Phil Kessel that Toronto would have been right to run out of town. Ottawa would have to eat 2-2.5M of his contract for 5 years for any team to take a risk on him. 5 years 7.5M for a declining 20+30 point scorer is TERRIBLE value. |

Very glad you're not a GM. Good players get off to weak starts ALL THE TIME. If you're going wipe away an entire career from a proven player for one bad start then you're pretty terrible at evaluating players.
Good thing you weren't in charge of the trades that brought Schultz and Hagelin here - Rinosaur
If Ryan was in the last year of his deal then I'd take a 3rd round flyer on him like we did with Schultz, then he could maybe sign a 1 year 2 million dollar "prove it" deal like Schultz did
Hagelin was picked up when we had overpaid and underachieving Perron going the other way. Now we currently have overpaid and underachieving Hagelin on the roster
No way am I signing up for 5 years and 7.5 million of "maybe he'll turn his career around with a scenery change" Bobby Ryan |

20 to 30 points? Who are you talking about?
I will say that regardless, OTT needs to retain money. |

There's nothing that needs to be "turned around." He's off to one poor start from an otherwise consistent career. |

Agreed. Plus (no offense to Duchene or Turris) he doesn't really have any good centers to feed him the puck. Having Sid or Malkin feed him the puck. I can see him scoring all day. Also Ottawa has a few articles out in the news papers stating they would retain salary if they traded Phaneuf or Ryan. |

There's literally nothing for him to "turn around." Getting an upgrade in linemates however can boost what has been, pretty consistent production. |

A pretty consistent 3 goals in 23 games this year and 11 in 62 last year?
but ya, I'll take his 2011-12 stats as the norm and forget the last 2 years of extremely tepid production for the low cost of 7.5 million and commit to 5 more years past that |

Last year Ryan also had 6 goals 9 assists for 15 points in 19 playoff games. - Rinosaur
Not saying he's a bad player, but I thought he was injured through most seasons for large periods - I'm happy to be wrong.
Edit: In fact looking at his stats I'm in, just getting paid a little $2 much.......
And, not sure I'd be handing over Sheary too quickly. |

1st Line Wingers score more than 12 goals per season. Bobby Ryan has negative value, Bobby Ryan can't spell intense
Sheary + for Brassard would get it done for the cash strapped Sens - TheGame316
No f'n way do I want Ryan on the Pens. Not at 7+ mil. Brassard....great. Ryan and his turd contract...f that.
How the hell would we make those salaries work anyway? |

Bobby Ryan 82 game regular season rates based on 2015-16 thru today
18.7 goals 27.2 assists 45.9 points
Seems like a must have talent to me. Especially at $7M per plus assets. |

Bobby Ryan has been trending down since his peak year in Anaheim. The Ducks saw it before they even traded him, and he hasnt proved them wrong all these years with the Sens. |

Brassard would be an awesome grab for the Pens...
Bobby Ryan is a good hockey player with a terrible contract. He broke his finger at the beginning of the season so he hasn't had a best of year. He was lights out for Ottawa's last.playoff run. I think with a top centre(we have 2) he would rip it up. If you got him at 4.5-5 he would be decent value. Seems too much like NHL18 GM mode though and I dont see Ottawa eating the money as we would have to send them an asset that makes even less to entice them, ie. Sprong, Guentzel and no dice there.
The former is prolly more likely to happen, hopefully JR can swing a deal for Brassard. |

J.M. would be a great get, but L.V. is near 1st place and absolutely rolling. I doubt they sell this season. I think they keep him, try to resign in summer. |

All depends on their long term plan. Do they sacrifice the building of a young heavily prospect loaded system for 1 possible grab at some playoff round success?
I think if they went .500 from here & sold the farm & the deadline & either just missed or went out in round 1, the season has already been a success. With more picks after trading away talent they build a deeper system to have long term success. If they went all out & tried to win it this year & fell on their sword by not having as many picks, Not building a deeper system, then long term they will not succeed.
I think before the season started, they had a long term objective that won't be sacrificed by short term 'potential'. Nothing wrong with trading away players at the deadline then have then sign long term over summer. That's a win win for them. |
