Marner and Nylander have 20, and 21pts. Marner is leading the team in assets, and those 20ish points have them in the top 5 on the team... They are on pace for 50ish points. A bit of a slump, but not bad.. My biggest concern is not their number production, but the team isn't dominating on the offensive zone like it did last year. When they move their feet and get to the pucks, they look unstoppable. They just haven't been doing it consistently.. The trade off, is they are actually playing better in their own end. |

he has the 2nd most ice time per game on the season.
at some point you have to have results from that ice time
unless I am way off.. try hards per/60 is the most important? - senstroll
5v5 he's 5th, 6th if Matthews isn't injured
PP he's 9th
PK he's 1st.
Total ice time he's 5th ( also due to Matthews being injured )....maybe I'm looking at a different site
*this is just forwards
Also 122 Ozone draws vs 286 Dzone draws...doesn't seem like he's getting favorable starts to score points and is used to stop points from being scored.
This is for you Uncle Leo
Love Garnie

I want my shutdown players to at least be decent overall...not make excuses for them.. he was decent..but doesnt seem to be anymore. - senstroll
Yeah, he really dosnt have an excuse for not scoring when Kadri and Marleau are getting the same mins and producing.
He is getting the toughest mins and most d zone starts.
Komarov is a good defensive forward and a great PKer. But I'd like to see him get zero power play time.
It seems to me that they are grooming Kapanen to replace him. |

Still plays good defensively...the dam will break and we'll be scoring again.
I'm more worried about Willie/Mitch myself and the majority of our D. - Garnie
I think the D has been fine, it's the forwards who are poopting the bed defensively.

Watch who's 1st back in our zone...and watch who's changing instead of backchecking....that's why Leo's there. IMO |

Agreed, i love Leo, but I can't see where he helps the team moving forward.
Sure his defensive game is good, and a great PKer, but his offense lately hasn't been anything to be happy with.
Leivo's two way game has improved, he back checks better than most of our players do I have noticed in the very little time he has played. He clearly knows he has to if he wants to keep a spot on the roster.
He can win battles in the Ozone better than Leo can, or the puck tends to always find where he is. I guess I'd just like to see him get given more of an opportunity to see what he's capable of. - LeafGuy89

They haven't though...prime example is Rielly giving it away for the 1st goal last night, but I think we'll get it going again and I'm not panicking yet. |

I don't disagree, he's an extremely reliable player out there. Rarely makes mistakes defensively.
The mins are just too high. I know he can do a pretty good job shutting down guys, but we need to score too. Playing JVR 12 mins a game, Marner and Nylander 14 mins dosnt do that. There needs to be a balance |

Defenders are bound to make mistakes. And when they do it's always costly. A forward makes a mistake and no one notices because it's in the O zone.
Gardiner needs to step it up. However, the rest of the guys are doing a good job. I really like Borgman's development |

We have plenty, PLENTY of players that were drafted to score on this team. A team is allowed a handful of of forwards/defenceman that actually take the responsibility of defending seriously. |

5v5 Leo gets less time than:
Hyman, Kadri, Marleau, Nylander, Matthews and is pretty even with Marner.
I dont' know...you put a guy up against the other teams top line to try and stop them from scoring you're going to get ice time. Hopefully in the future we just score 10 goals a game Tavares/Matthews/McDavid on the top line and we won't need any defensive forwards. |

I see what you are saying, it's just this team is built to score. The start of the season was a little much, we don't need to throw defense out the window.
We do need a balance though. |

Borgman is fantastic at getting pucks out of his end. When the puck is dumped in, he shields the puck, bounces off the hit and gets it out.
It's only a matter of time until he gets PK time. And his mins will go up. |

Sure, I like Komarov on the team. I would be happy if he signed for cheap. But I still would like to take his mins down |

Yeah Borgman has been really impressive. He's one of our better defenseman at getting the puck out of our end with a clear entry. And only expect him to improve more and more, looking like a great find so far! |

yeah that was a weird play, Andersen or Brown were yelling "wheel, wheel" but he reversed the puck and Brown was not in any position to accept a back pass |
