This doesn't make sense. The Pens need a center, not a winger, plus it doesn't work cap wise. Also, Schultz is still out, who would we have on defense to take Cole's place?

If I am moving Kane to the Pens, just playing along with this, i am asking for Guentzel over Sheary. Also If I am retaining money i need a first rounder. I just don't see enough coming back to Buffalo for a guy that could score 30 next to crosby

I could see Botterill going for Cole, Hagelin and a 1st.

Cole could be a nice leadership presence for their D core, assuming they re-sign him.
Hagelin would bring them some speed and grit. This would also balance out the cap impact.

Buffalo might value two solid complimentary players over having a 2019 1st. I doubt Botterill is looking to extend this rebuild any further than this year.

I have to assume that Botterill and JR have been in constant conversation throughout the offseason and season. I expect they would both be open and honest with each other and put together a mutually beneficial deal.

No doubt Botts has a list of players he brought to the Pens that he would love to get in Buffalo. Probably would involve some off the radar players in a trade.
