The Flyers are an average team. Recent games that resulted in wins shows how fine of a line it is for the Flyers in terms of wins and losses. A few plays a game are the difference. Right now they're making the plays that are leading to wins where during the 10 game losing streak they weren't making those plays. They teeter on the edge between wins and losses. That's where this team is.
- MJL

Not going on the PK 4-5 times a night IMO has really helped them during these 5 games. They have been on the PK 2 times or less during the stretch which is a big improvement and showing us they have learned to adapt to these stick infractions.
The one biggest concern I have going into Saturday night is that buffalo was able to use their size against us to win a lot of corner battles and Dallas is a BIG team.

I'm sure he does. On a similar note, draftsite.com has the 2015 redraft going as such:

1. McDavid
2. Werenski
3. Provorov
4. Eichel
5. Rantanen
6. Hanifin
7. Marner - PHL

- VladDrag

I'd flip Provorov and Werenski, but, other than that, it looks pretty much spot on.

Hopefully he can fix those issues. I wonder if Voracek blows a routine coverage that leads to losing a game 7 in a playoff series or a Cup deciding game, or any other vital game, if anyone would still be willing to live with it?

Excellent point. The PK has been a major issue for this team. I just think the Flyers didn't have their A game last night for whatever reason.

Provorov also gets around 60% D zone starts, where Werenski gets nearly 60% of his starts in the O zone. And while he may have more goals than Provorov, you also have to factor in Werenski playing on Carolina's top pp unit. Plus Provorov has 2 more assists and only 4 less points so they aren't really that far apart.

All that aside, there isn't a Dman in the league under the age of 24-25 or so that controls a game and settles down his team as well as Provorov. He is the total package.

- BiggE

WHOOPS!

Yep Provorov is controlling games like a 5 year vet with his skill set. I'm all on the Provy Hype wagon.

I'm sure they'd be pissed. I hope he can clean that stuff up, especially once they become a playoff team again, but I'm not holding my breath. OTOH, he's probably not a guy you are going to see on the ice in the last 2 minutes of a playoff game when they are protecting a one goal lead.

No pass from me, Voracek was driving me insane in the first period with his turnovers.

On a side note I think Simmer needs to be taken off the first line. But we're winning so maybe not just yet.

Yep with Hakstol's recent deployment of the team in the last 2 minutes I think Jake is now not on the short list to get those minutes.

G, Coots, Simmer, Filp, Laughton, Leier. Look to be the short list. Which who would have thunk 2 kids...

I agree but see the trend going in the right direction. The team still has an upside within this season. The margin for error is thin. Overcoming key injuries has been a serious problem. They're pretty healthy now so hopefully they can keep their current hot streak going.

I wouldn't mind a better ES player than Simmer on that line too, but with Jake playing on the Filp/Raffl line, they really don't have a better option right now. I don't think at this point in his career, Konecny is ready for top line duty.

In overall ice time, Provorov is playing slightly more, however, if you take out pp time, Provy is playing around 2-3 minutes more a night and much more on the PK.

I don't think he's going to be near Werenski's points total as their careers progress, as he won't likely ever be on the top PP as long as Ghost is here (not an advocate for trading him, just saying). He'll also be behind Sanheim as well in terms of PP time.

I think if Provy was given the same type of usage as Werenski, they would be closer in terms of total offensive output. Currently, Provy has 4 less points in 1 less game.

With all of that said, I do think Werenksi's offensive game is slightly better than Provy's, but I would still take Provy over Werenski.

- VladDrag

Good points but personnel-wise you are assuming they keep all-3 of Provorov, Ghost, and Sanheim. At some point - maybe 2 years from now, maybe 5 years from now - one of them being moved for a forward is a strong possibility. I don't think Provorov will ever be traded but one of the others could. This will all play itself out as they kids develop but the Flyers are in a good spot since D generally have more value.

Those 2 kids understand their roles and how to protect lead, good for them.

It was more a comment on the fact of the belief that Hak relies on "veteran presence" too much.

I would drop Eichel, a bit, and bring up Barzal into the conversation.

Something like :

1. McDavid
2. Provy
3. Werenski (you could swap them, they have equal but different types of impact)
4. Barzal (maybe swap Barzal and Eichel)
5. Eichel
6. Marner (I really like his game and think he's going to be a very good player)
7. Boeser
8. Hanifin
9. Rantanen
10. Aho

This isn't an easy thing to do.
