Silver lining to Toews and others now considered average

Injuries won’t effect the team - Crawford exempt from this post.

Lots going on in OTT. Dorion is evaluating a lot of offers right now. He is planning on making a move in December but might not happen because Melnyk needs to vet everything.

Not sure if Stan wants to consult with his dad. But Stan still trying to get his dad to return calls tableside. Chicago is the restaurant capitol of the country. Chicago magazine just had one issue ago/on cover: top ten steakhouse in Chicago. And i doubt Scotty frequents the new Portillos in his city. Although I heard Scotty watches some games from home. I don't imagine he can get Chicago style pizza ftom the grocery section. PS. Home is Tampa.

He gushes over Yzerman job ..How good, how deep the roster. But they haven't won three Cups. They kept their small skill guys ove the years M St Louis and now t Johnson. We moved TT.

Sort of mad we lost Danault but He was not a Smurf and Q messed up that trade and longer Cup run. We weren't good enough that year even if the trade paid better dividend if D Weisse had played better.

I saw an interview with Melnyk last nite promoting today’s outdoor game - he was complaining about bad attendance, bragging about his $68MM payroll (only $7MM short of the cap), threatening that the next expense to bet cut would have to be payroll.

Doesn’t sound like resigning his stars (starting with Karlsson at Toews/Kane/McDavid like numbers) is in play.

Rockford lost 2-1 in a shootout last night to the Rampage.

Andreas Martinsen scored again (3 goals in his last 4) and has been a solid pick up by Stan for the IceHogs.

If anyone from the BANGER line goes down (*knock on wood*) watch for him to get the call up.

He is quick for a big guy, he's physical and has 119 NHL games under his belt.

But a lot of this might be lobbying for a new building, which apparently is being considered - with, of course, the threat of moving out of the nation’s Capitol if he doesn’t get it.

I agree
- Enough criticism on this board to go around.

Anyone who has played this game knows it’s a Game of Team Chemistry and Confidence.
If your line mate or DPair is struggling you cover for him. You win puck battles, fight, back check, support and lose teeth if necessary.

Last night it’s what I saw from everyone.
A team of Marian Hossa’s

Guarded optimism- as they head out Monday on the most important road trip of the season
I like what I saw last night.

And cohesion. With that in mind the club has added how many new bodies and rookies? At Game 30 there still is so much to learn about the group and who fits where and who doesn't......... IMO Q has the group slotted correctly for the first time this yr given the personnel.

Add having the depth to add a Hino (Paink a scratch) and your 7-8-9 Dmen are Osterle and Kempny with reasonable depth options at Rockford along with some cap space other than the core being "inconsistent" I don't know how a Hawk fan could have hoped for better.

I like the process and reasonable options/depth/cap space at Game 30. They showed what a 60 minute effort can look like vs a big, fast uber talented group can look like along with some stinkers. I personally won't get too high or too low until I see how far the process and personnel have come along at Game 60-70.

Its all about the money in Ottawa. It wasn't made public but the Sens (at Melnyk's direction) asked Neon Dion Phaneuf to waive his no trade clause with the thought Vegas would claim him. He declined, so Karlsson's good D partner Marc Methot went out the door. And they just moved Kyle Turris out because Melnyk didn't want the long term commitment of a new contract. And next he won't break the bank to give Eric Karlsson a max money deal, so look for a trade sooner than later. And then Melnyk will start squawking about fans not buying tickets.

(edit: this isn't directed at you personally, 67)

I have no issue trading Kempny. He's a decent bottom 6 defenseman, but it's not like the Hawks are going to build around him going forward. Plus, as you said he's a UFA at the end of the season and likely won't want to re-sign.

A couple days ago people were shipping Kempny off to Ottawa, now after one decent game he's a guy to hold onto?

If Kempny has some trade value I would certainly be open to dealing him if the return was right.

- DarthKane

Agreed. Assuming they make the playoffs more than a good chance you're gonna need 8 Dmen which would seem to give a Kempny type more value than it would appear. ..... I'd guess if moving him fills a different need StanBow will look at what he can bring. If not he's useful even when not playing (depth).

Think Quebec City eventually. (Unless somebody comes in with a boatload of cash to help poor Eugene keep the franchise afloat).

This game against Winnipeg was another example of what Schmaltz can do when he is on his game. When he is attacking with speed over the blueline he is making things happen. If this kid can get some more consistency in his game, the Hawks are way more dangerous.

- breadbag

IMO the closest this franchise has to a complete top 6 three zone player in the Hossa mold. Dangerous offensively, the awareness, skill and speed to be disruptive defensively. Sheer will and consistency will determine if he reaches that level and with 89 NHL games under his belt he's nowhere near his ceiling. ..... Add if he can do that as a centerman you have the possibility of having a real difference maker.

Seattle approving the funding for an arena gives the NHL another variable in the situations in OTT and FLA.

A $300 ticket US in Chicago is a $70 seat in Ottawa

$400 Cnd x 17,000 = $6.8 Million
$70 x 17,000 = $1.2 Million
X 41 Home games= $230 Million on the difference

Wow

Schmaltz continues to progress and impress. As much as we want to see Schmaltz play centre he's had some good success on the wing with Anisimov and Kane. I would look to find a 3C elsewhere and leave Schmaltz on the left side of #15.
- DarthKane

I'm with you here, Kaner. Schmaltz may develop into a C some day but he's not close right now. He's slotted perfectly at wing with Kane and AA right now.

Have said similar and think that's totally reasonable. There were a bunch of new full and part time faces this year (Hayden, Forsling, Rutta, Murphy, Dinky, Oesterle, Wingles, Bouma) along with a couple removed and returned faces (Sharp/Saad) to go with easily just as many last season.

I see a lot of posts claiming this team will be a work in progress but not much patience with the process. Like you said it may take that many games for them to be clicking on all cylinders night in and night out. Hopefully they are in the playoff picture at that point to potentially make hay with it.

As Kane has shown, maybe better than anyone, a winger can be just as effective as a playmaker. Since Schmaltz isn't going to do the dirty work of a center, then maybe this is the best compromise for his long-term career.
- pdx2ord

This!! Right now Schmaltz is a play making winger and a perfect fit to feed Kane while AA does the dirty work with Schmaltz helping in that regard with a slashing/darting style.
