Like Kempny a lot - he plays a heavier game (something the Hawks always seem to lack on the back end-however adding Murphy has changed that) and has that booming shot from the point which would look great on the PP. Would hate to see him moved. But Q has got to play him more, heck at all.
Nice win last night, but it was one game. Hawks need to string some wins together against better competition, but it was nice they beat the Jets at home a team they've struggled with in recent years. I mentioned it before but the Wingles singing was a really nice one by Stan...meanwhile the Panik overpay for 2.8m looks worse every minute. - DK002

And getting thrown out of the dot . Watch a lot of games and the players seem so ready to step in to take the draw ,like they know before it even happens that their Center will be thrown out . It is just a joke .. - oldduffman
I do not understand this rule and probably never will (wonder if the officials even do) even though I have been around hockey all my life.
A couple games ago, the opposing center was standing at the dot with his stick practically laying across the ice as our player (I think it was Hinostroza) was skating into his faceoff position. The linesman throws our player out before he even sets himself for the faceoff. Bizzare!! |

After further thought, the goal is to score on the PP, but what if you can't?
So a team decides to take liberties/ penalties and now you end up with the man advantage and you can't score.
Plan B, bring in heavy line and tell forwards to be checking distance away from defenseman at all times. Take those 2 minutes as an opportunity to physically abuse the opponents best defenseman. |

How many times we see the opponent handle the puck along the boards with no fear.
Also it would put a lot more pressure on the d man when they dump and Hayden is coming at you at full speed not really concerned about the puck but finishing his check |

I’m not gonna sit here and beat on RICHARD Panik ,but I hope that he can find his game , but Mike Babcock is a good judge of talent , Richard Panik for what he is ,is a seven hundred and fifty thousand to one million dollar third or fourth line left-wing , not the second coming of Marian Hossa which some were ready to anoint him last year,Speaking of which losing Marion is a very very very huge loss, I call him the modern day BobbyHull minus the booming slapshot, that’s how huge the losses to this team. |

Typically we are on the same page DK, but Kempny has had trouble at the offensive blue line and in the neutral zone with gap control and decisions to pinch which have led to odd-man breaks against Crow. I think he was rightfully passed on the depth chart by Murphy, Rutta, Forsling, Franson and even Osterle. He showed last night that he can be an effective NHL dman, but I think he was given plenty of opportunity to minimize his mistakes. He is a valuable depth player in the case of injury as we saw last night . - EnzoD
I love all of your posts. But I actually think they need to play him more. While these are struggles of his...not playing him doesn't help him get better with improving them. The Hawks are in a tough position right now with fighting for a playoff spot, and they will remain in this same spot all season...so being patient with players like Kempny won't be easy. But I really believe he could be a VALUABLE asset to this team come season end/playoff time if they remain patient with him and let him play. In my opinion the blue line has played well enough to win games. Moving forward though I still think Kempny has more upside than Franson and Osterle. Also, for as much as everybody dogs Brent Seabrook and even Duncan Keith lately, maybe giving those guys nights off to rest would allow for more Kempny and other players. While many of us ask what's wrong with Duncan Keith, maybe it's time to talk about his age and the miles that has been logged on him. |

I didn't say I didn't like it. I used to employ it for the first two periods when coaching against a better team. Run the same defenseman for two periods. Then in the 3rd take a fake run and the guy would usually throw the puck away. Our guy would turn and go long and whoever got the puck would pass it long. Breakaways the whole 3rd period. If we were going to upset a better team that's how we did it.
Wasn't the Federal League, either. |

All the reason to take him off the PP - gets him 4-6 minutes less ice time. |

they need guys on the point during the PP who can hit the net with their shots. idk what others think, but I laugh every time DK shoots. I think the first thing I said on Nick Schmaltz goal was, "oh my god, Duncan Keith had a shot that got through and would have been on the net!" |

Yup. If most here can all see that hopefully it's only a matter of time before it happens. Gives the local media talking heads a chance to again proclaim someone is a hall of fame coach for coming up with a stroke of genius, thereby getting their noses brown all over again. |

More often that not sans Burns, MR Slew Foot, and a few others, the D are shooting to a spot for the deflection. Duncs problem is he i not getting the shot past the first defender. |

It's amazing how 16 minutes of ice time in one game and a slightly tainted goal (tipped by the opposing dman and thereby elevated past the goalie's shoulder) can change the opinion of the value of a player to the Hawks or in trade.

Franson is a good example. He get's the puck, a quick lateral move to change the angle and a hard snap shot. DK just keeps trying the big wind up and tries to put it through someone. |

I know this board talks about it quite often, but the Hawks are a different team when they are just launching pucks on the net. I know they scored 3 goals on their first 5 shots, but they were difficult shots to see due to traffic and they were from great spots on the ice. they need more of this. i think this is why I love their fourth line so much. they get the puck and shoot. they get in front of the net, keep shots low, get rebounds, and keep going until the whistle has been blown. going back to their blue line...get puck. put puck on net. good things will happen.
question that somebody might have an answer for...did Ryan Dzingel from Ottawa ever play with Hino/Hartman or Tommy Wingels in the Chicagoland area??? Is this a potential target for the Blackhawks? |

Dzingel is a couple years older (92 birth year) compared to 94 for Hartman and 96 for Schmaltz, so probably not. My dad played Men's league with Dzinglel's dad for the Duffers, actually. |

Some stats for reference. Hawks PP stats.
DeBrincat's 3 first assists are a good sign, he has made some great passes.
For reference, Dmen in the NHL average 46% shots through on net on the PP. Forsling, Keith and Seabrook all below average in terms of hitting the net so far. Franson has been good, Rutta super small sample size, as he hasn't shot much on the PP.
AA, Toews, Saad all getting to the dirty areas more and chances around the net, but AA has managed to score on about 1/3 of his shots on goal.

True It was only one game. But it was enough to get noticed. Some GM will be interested in gambling on an experienced pro player. Happens all the time. Maybe we can get something more out of a Panic, a Kempny .....
Defensive depth is so important. Play Kempny and maybe someone will bite. Or he may prove that his shortcomings are not as frequent. Sit him out often and your investment in him dries up when he signs elsewhere next season. |

Besides you only have to look as far as Daley to realize sometimes Q can't put a player in the best position to succeed

Schmaltz continues to progress and impress. As much as we want to see Schmaltz play centre he's had some good success on the wing with Anisimov and Kane. I would look to find a 3C elsewhere and leave Schmaltz on the left side of #15. - DarthKane
I would look to add a 3rd line center for sure...and probably another player or two.
Finally Debrincat is on the right line, although Toews has been a ghost more than in the past....I have to wonder if Toews has a chronic issue, like a back problem.
Schmaltz and DeBrincat have to play with high end players to be most effective.
