Maybe, just maybe...he isn’t as good as we think.
- Steven_Seagull

I've never thought he was a good as a lot of people on here. I'd take Nylander over Marner every day of the week

Not the right time yet. Still too early.

I checked google....it says "no time like the present"

Plus, learn to be a pro by a pro. Marleau has many years of playoff experience.

Would rather Marleau for the next 2 years than JVR long term.

Marleau’s game is way more well rounded and JVR is soft as butter, and playing for a salary.

Team has room to sign the guys they need to keep, with Marleau here. They could probably squeeze in JVR, too, with the cap going up to 82... but the money is better spent on D.

Marleau is just as soft as JVR but at least JVR stands in front and is in his prime years. Marleau is pushing 40.

Sign old guys cheap and short.

Many years of playoff choking experience one could argue.

Marleau is signed short term. JVR would likely want 7+ with the Leafs.

Marleau has way more grit than JVR. And despite pushing 40 plays with more intensity than JVR ever has. Faster, too.

Decent but San Jose was a favorite for many years and usually underachieved. Went to the Finals once and lost. The Sedins have 100 games of playoff experience too plus an MVP trophy between them but I wouldn't sign them to a 3 year deal when they become UFAs. Their days are done.

Marleau was a very good player for a long time but he's not young enough or good enough to warrant the money and term they gave him and risking the situation with other, younger, better players.

1 year is short term. 3 years is troublesome and unnecessary.

JVR stands in front on the PP. That counts for something. And he's not even 30 yet so his odds of getting better are much better than Marleau who is more likely to go downhill from here, not up. 7 more years of JVR is not ideal but still puts him at 36 when his deal is done which is still younger than Marleau.

Just keep JVR and keep developing players from within on ELC. I don't understand why the Leafs finally rebuild properly and suddenly it has to be a huge rush.

I seriously doubt Marleau's contract will have any negative long term implications to this team, whether it be declining play or salary effects.

Getting this worked up over a 3 year deal is silly. It's really not that bad.

This cycle game is boring as hell
- daeth

Agreed. The West is boring. Full of teams that just cycle the puck for the fun of it. Most of the game is played behind the net. I want to know when the idea of cycling the puck came into hockey. And why?
