it's crazy. terrible advice by the bank telling them the safer thing to do is issue a bank draft.

they should have wrote a (frank)ing cheque. far safer. or better yet, just sent the money electronically.

awful the banks get away with giving terrible advice while keeping the cash for themselves.

I understand the bank doesn't want to be out a million bucks but the lady signed the deal that she would pay it back if anyone cashed the cheque. Then they want a lien on the house which I think is going just too far.

You (frank)ed them. You promised them it was essentially insured by the bank if they sent the draft and now saying "we want your house to be insurance". How about the fact they are lending out that money to people at 20% rates on credit cards?

I don't think a lien on the house is necessary. Bank drafts have tracking numbers. The bank would be notified of it being cashed before she would, why do they think she is trying to cheat the system? UPS admitted it was lost. In addition to that, its her effing money..

I never said she was trying to cheat the system. I said the bank (frank)ed them with this whole process. that the lien is just too far. She played by the rules of the bank and the bank wants to change them.

Depending on how bad they want all of that money, maybe they sue. They probably should. Plus add on interest since the markets are up

Oh I get you. My bad.

Bank just doesn't want to be out a million bucks of their money. I don't know why it wasn't wire transferred. Lady gets brother to set up a new bank account at TD in his town if he doesn't have one. They transfer it.

The teller or manager who said it's safest with a draft will probably be fired. If the family decides to sue the bank they should include this person as well.
