I seriously doubt Marleau's contract will have any negative long term implications to this team, whether it be declining play or salary effects.
Getting this worked up over a 3 year deal is silly. It's really not that bad. - UsernameUnknown
It's already putting JVR on the chopping block. And if they keep JVR, then it puts pressure on the future Nylander and Marner deals. Lou is the cap master but signing a 38 year old with a NMC sounds like a mistake that's been made before. |

Marleau is signed short term. JVR would likely want 7+ with the Leafs.
Marleau has way more grit than JVR. And despite pushing 40 plays with more intensity than JVR ever has. Faster, too. - Feeling Glucky?
I wouldn’t waste your time, obviously by the statement “Marleau is soft like JVR” crack was free during the ban. |

Just keep JVR and keep developing players from within on ELC. I don't understand why the Leafs finally rebuild properly and suddenly it has to be a huge rush. - Unholy_Goalie
It only is with the fans, and strangely to a lesser extent, the media.
The management don't seem to have any intention in rushing the rebuild. |

What a snoozer.
Do we still suck?
Come on boys, I know Matthews is god, but someone else needs to step up and take this team by the balls (other than Andersen)

No rush.

Agreed. The West is boring. Full of teams that just cycle the puck for the fun of it. Most of the game is played behind the net. I want to know when the idea of cycling the puck came into hockey. And why? - walshyleafsfan
Coaches love it when neither team gets any scoring chances because it means nobody is making a mistake defensively. Scoring goals don't win games, preventing them does!
Or something.
edit: with that said if the leafs win then yay |

Maybe not upper management but Babcock seems like he is though. |

People had JVR on the chopping block before we even signed Marleau. I think with or without Marleau, Lou is going to do with JVR what he's had planned all along, one way or another. |

Only because Matthews, Nylander and Marner all need contracts, not because JVR is a bad player. Adding Marleau only pushed him closer to the door. Without Marleau, it's 6.25 million times easier to find money to sign him. |

Babcock has no way to rush the rebuild. And if he did, I can't imagine him putting Nylander/Marner on the 4th line to teach them lessons |

Leivo has been thoroughly dissappointing in his play so far. Thought he would look better, looks slow and his hands look Hyman-esque. And I haven't noticed his 'hallmark' shot... |

I meant he's in a rush to win because he's so ultra competitive. I'm sure he had a say in the Marleau signing, probably has more pull with moves than the average coach. But he's teaching all the kids responsibility and how to play the right way which is great to see. |

Being a GM isn't supposed to be easy. If they want to sign him, they'll find room, that's all I'm saying. If they don't sign JVR it's because they don't want him, not because they can't afford him. |

And I'm saying, if they didn't sign Marleau, it would be easier to afford them all, including JVR. |

He's a borderline ahl'er/ nhl'er.
What do you expect.
