I think it's safe to say decisions were made in constructing this team this year that were financially necessary. However the personnel on balance have created a team that lacks any significant scoring threat on the last two lines. Defensively we may be a tad better, but offensively there is a cliff of a drop off. So, shut the top two lines down and you got us.

Hasn't the bottom 6 got a couple in the last few games? She-man to Shags to Cole. Our only goal.

This shyte about 5v5 scoring, (frank) that. If the Pens get 3 PP goals & can win 3-2 I'll take that every day & night. Just find a way to (frank)ing win would be really nice very much appreciated!

This team has played in like 20 games where 1 goal has decided the outcome. Rutherford did a terrible job of managing the roster this offseason. Kunitz, Daley, Hainsy, Cullen, and Bonino are out. Ryan Reaves and Matt Hunwick are in along with Sheahan. The Reaves move sucked out loud when it was made, and it sucks out loud now.

Well... I think Ruth is going to get to work here soon....

I'm actually starting to like Sheehan. I still want them to bring in a top notch 3C but I like that Sheehan is a flexible and responsible player. Could slot into the 4C or play 3rd line wing if the Pens move someone like Sheary or Hagelin.

I hope any moves are for long term assets and not just rentals. I hope they can bring in a young power forward who can develop into a top 6 role a bit a bit cheap.

Rutherford has botched a few things lately no doubt but Sheahan is not one of them. The guy plays hard every shift. Another month of practicing the way the Pens practice and he should be productive on the score sheet. Reaves is never going to score but watching him hit everything in sight after a few years of having no muscle is a little satisfying. The other team cheap shotting the Pens players has decreased significantly. It seems all of the opposition players are scared of him. That gave against the Islanders where Cizikas was f’ing with Rust off the face off and Reaves had them switch sides Cizikas quit the BS real quick. I wish we could dress 13 forwards and just put Reaves out there when the other team needed to be reminded of their imminent doom. I was looking forward to Reaves breaking Douchebinskys face but Kassian beat him to it.

While I got tired of the ragging on certain players, there should be free reign to gripe about Reaves. The Pens could have had a very promising 18 year old power forward and instead they have a rental 4th line forward who at his best is an 8 minute per game face puncher.

I'm ok having him on the roster but given what the Pens gave up for him, everyone is allowed to be pissed.

Karlsson isn’t playing any better than Letang. Letang is tied for second in dman scoring so far this year. And he missed a bunch of games. And Malkin might be worth more than just Karlsson anyways.

Whatever happened to the Pens injury problems? We usually have at least 8 guys on the shelf by this point in the season. That’s how the kids like Rust, Dumo, Sheary, Kuhny, Wilson, Murray etc are even full time NHL players now. Spring and ZAR are playing pretty well finally. I hate to say it but I’m kind of hoping for a Haglen and Hornqvist injury right now. Not bad ones, maybe 5 games each.

Maybe Malkin for Karlsson & Duchene...

I'm not entirely sure I would even do Karlsson for Letang straight up. I'm ok with trading Letang for a massive haul but his contract is going to look amazing once Doughty and Karlsson sign for $10M a piece.

There is a lot of talk about Letang struggling but he is 4th on the team in scoring and playing +25 minutes per night after missing 9 months of hockey. I think that is pretty damn good.

Per NST, his even strength goal differential is 14 GF and 36 GA... das bad. To be fair, Justin Schultz is the only Pens player with a positive goal differential at 5v5 and that's by a +1.
