I would take the Rangers being in the playoffs with a chance to win then god awful hockey where the season is unwatchable.. But thats just me. - mdw7413
The chances of them winning playing this way is about the same odds as being bitten by an actual shark while swimming. Hayes, Miller and Nash don't score. Kreider and Buch have gone long stretches both being really good and underwhelming. The defensive zone structure is still a mess. |

Doesn't have to be a decade, with a good GM it could come together in Shesterkin's 2nd-3rd season, as long as Dolan and Sather are involved we won't so you guys can be satisfied with mediocre |

And the odds of them winning with what you want are the same. The only difference would be your way would make them unwatchable for years. |

Or you could end up like the Leafs and end up with a young nucleus that you can build around. I'm willing to take that chance. |

Not one team has won a cup with a quick rebuild. Even the penguins gettin Crosby then Malkin( which will never happen for another team again) had to go 15 years from there 90's cups. |

If Burton call the shots on Draft night, we should have the first Cup within 2-3 years!

Honestly, I think the term blowing it up is really overused (not saying you in particular used it). I think the more appropriate phrasing is making decisions with the future in mind first, rather than making short term decisions for this season. The Rangers have a lot of good young pieces. If the club doesn't think they can make any noise in the playoffs, then they also have pieces they can trade at the deadline to rebuild the farm system or get even younger.

Oh yes, by all means, let's follow the Leafs example of how to run a franchise. |

You mean they didn't do a good job selling off players like Kessel, Phaneuf, Polak etc, then rebuild for 3 painful years and now have a really good young team with a nice mix of veterans. So what they did was bad? |

At this point it's senseless to keep risking the future to continue on this path, trading Nash, Grabner for picks and prospects makes sense, trading Mac before we sign him to a 7 year deal at $7 mil plus at 30 when I don't know if anyone can pin point where and when he started to become a mediocre defensman, these moves make too much sense, I'm tired of waiting for Kreider, Miller, Hayes to "break out" if they were truly elite player they would have by now, just for once can we have a player develop and reach his potential? |

I mean the rangers have beaten both the bolts and jackets this year. Not saying it would be easy but I would rather take the chance and see it come playoff time - TPC

I am not necessarily disagreeing with the point that the Rangers don't really have what it takes to compete this year. But, I also think that constantly having the argument after every single bad game is worthless as well. Let them establish another 20 game or so body of work, and see where they are then. At that point, you can make a decision which way to go with the remainder of the season.

That they were, but the years that they had 91 and 90 points are so similar to what the Rangers now. If they got in they wouldn't have won, but they weren't bad enough to get impact players in the draft.
Edit: And then Brian Burke traded ended up being Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton for Phil Kessel in 2009 so that set them back even further. |
