Regarding Schenn, I'm glad he's doing well. I liked the way he played for the most part, but he was also pretty inconsistent. I also don't think he'd be playing the way he is for the Blues if the Flyers didn't trade him, but there's no way to know that. I also think two first rounders is a pretty good haul for what he was here, so I'm not mad about it.

I don't think there's any chance he wins the hart.

He wins the Hart and MDZ wins the Norris.

Book it.

I would have to think Stamkos is the odds on fave for the Hart at this point in the season.

Weise for all his suckage is still a better player than read right now. I want read nowhere near our pk
- Just5

Yeah. Just not sure what Read can bring. I think once he lost a step he just became less useful.

Plus the Flyers have other guys that they could bring up to help that could be more effective I believe.

If Lindblom keeps playing well, he would be a solid option to place on that 3rd line.

Kucherov also having a great year. Like someone else said though, I don't see Schenn keeping up this pace.

Agreed, would love to see at some point this season:

G-Coots-Simmonds
Raffl-Patrick-Jake
Lindblom-Filppula-TK
Leier-Laughton-Weal*

*and if they can swap Weal for someone with more size and grit, without losing speed, even better.

Yeah.

It's a little tough right now because Weal needs to be bringing more and you want more from Weise too and both them are on the same line with your rookie center.

Right now i do like Konecny on the 4th line. i think him simplifying his game a little and playing a more in your face game will help him. that line plays with speed and tenacity. Eventually he'll move up but I think right now it's a good move.

I was as stoked on the Patrick selection as anyone but he hasn't been playing well enough lately to warrant Jake as a linemate. Hopefully he gets it going here at some point and that can happen.

Agreed, I'm just hoping he can pick it up down the stretch and earn some 2nd line time. However, if they are eliminated from playoff contention before the end of the season, I would move him up then just to give the line a look for next season.

Patrick will be fine.

Did I hope to see more...Hell yeah. But the recovering from injuries and surgeries probably didn't help. I'll be curious to see how he plays the 2nd half of the season.

Also right now he is playing with Weal and Weise, Two wingers who aren't playing great either.

Yup, having those 2 on his wings is certainly doing him no favors right now.

For me this would be my lineup with those two struggling and to get Patrick some help:

Giroux - Couturier - Konecny
Raff - Filppula - Voracek
Weal - Patrick - Simmonds
Leier - Laughton - Weise

Hell I wouldn't be against bringing a guy like Colin McDonald up for that 4th line role. He was a pretty effective player there.

From The Hockey News, Top 10 trades of 2017:

3. Blues trade Jori Lehtera, a 2017 first-round pick (Morgan Frost) and a 2018 conditional first-round pick to Flyers for Brayden Schenn

Oh boy. Maybe Flyers GM Ron Hextall has behaved so conservatively in his tenure because when he does emerge from his hole to make a trade, he gets pillaged like he did here. There’s just no justifying Philly’s return for this one. It was an iffy trade the day it happened, with the Blues quickly announcing they’d give Schenn a crack at a scoring-line center role, and it has since become the steal of the year. Schenn has been the NHL’s top power forward this season, period. He already has six game-winning goals and is in contention for the league scoring crown and Hart Trophy. He’s finally realizing the potential he showed as a superstar junior player in the WHL, and it hasn’t seemed to matter which wingers he’s played with between Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz and Alexander Steen.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

The trade doesn't quite add up to what Hextall has been preaching. He consistently has said he'll make a trade if it doesn't hurt the team in the short term and adds to long term assets. He definitely made the team worse in the short term while the long term is unknown. Good centers aren't easy to find these days and Schenn was a lock for at least 45-50 points. The team needs one bigger checking forward and they traded him away. I'm ok with the patient route but I feel lied to. Hextall might not have a job in 3-4 years if we don't see some progress by next year.

I think he'll be fine as well. Wouldn't mind him getting some time with Jake or G....just to give the kid some confidence. I really think you'll see him pick up his production in the second half of the season and be more noticeable.

Simmonds is finally starting to look like himself, I would leave him with G and Coots for the time being. Colin Mac?, yeah for a game or 2, but face it, there's a reason he's spent most of his career in the minors. I'd rather see if I can just make a hockey deal using Weal to get a better fit for that line.

I don't think Hextall's job is in any jeopardy right now, but if they miss the playoffs this year and next, then yeah, he'll start feeling some heat.

Surely if Schenn was still here he would be putting up a point per game...I mean...that is all he did when he was here, right?

Man, if only Morgan Frost was lighting up the NHL then maybe they would say we did well in the trade!!! Love trade evaluations without foresight.

I am making that Schenn trade 9 times out of 10 and the only time I wouldn't is because I am trading him for Barzal
