Being a checking center doesn't mean you hit people, it means that you keep the other teams scorers in "check". Hitting people is not being a checking center. If hitting people was the criteria, that would make Hagg and Gudas checking centers. Plus, Simmonds is not a center so not sure what that has to do with anything.
So in summation, I like Schenn as a player, He will not win the Hart trophy, He is not a strong defensive or "checking" center and wouldn't be playing center here. Hell, if G is playing wing how does Schenn crack the middle line up.

Hextall has never said that he won't make a trade to acquire assets for the future if it hurts the team now. What he has said is that he's willing to make a trade to help the team now, as long as it doesn't hurt the future. A clear distinction.
