Read doesn't have Raffl's size, but like Raffl he's a strong possession player. Weise is not, and that is making Patrick's adjustment to the NHL even harder than it needs to be because he has Weise on his wing most nights.

Weise has size, but he doesn't use it effectively.

Read has clearly lost a step, a friend who has seen a few Phantoms games says he looks like an average skater at the AHL level at this point. With his skating diminshed, I don't think he'd be much help on the PK these days.
- BiggE

Tony Androckitis who watches every Phantoms game for Inside AHL hockey says Read obviously looks too good for the AHL.

I think he could do two laps of the rink before Lehtera finished one.

Surely if Schenn was still here he would be putting up a point per game...I mean...that is all he did when he was here, right?

Man, if only Morgan Frost was lighting up the NHL then maybe they would say we did well in the trade!!! Love trade evaluations without foresight.

I am making that Schenn trade 9 times out of 10 and the only time I wouldn't is because I am trading him for Barzal

I don't think Hextall's job is in any jeopardy right now, but if they miss the playoffs this year and next, then yeah, he'll start feeling some heat.
- BiggE

Imho, if they miss this year it's no additional risk for him. If they miss next year I think it would depend on why they miss and by how much they miss by for the job risk assessment. He's building for the long term and the next two years don't fall into that range. As long as the trend line is going up I think he's fine.

I wasn't saying it was a bad trade, I would do that deal too. It just doesn't line up with what Hextall has been preaching. I'm ok with getting worse now if it brings back significant assets later. Just don't lie to us and say you won't trade assets that hurt the team in the short term, because clearly he did.

regarding Schenn, unitl the trade plays out as far as who the two #1 picks become as a finished product I won't judge the trade. Short term Lehtera vs Schenn well no poop its a bad move. But that isn't what the trade was mostly about. If Frost and this year's pick doesn't pan out then yeah, it ranks up there with the Sharp trade. But what if the two picks end up being Giroux and Gagne like players? In my opinion, while Hextall is trying to make the playoffs and compete now, he is building a team he feels will compete year in and out and not be a one and done (ala 2010) team. with Schenn maybe this team is a 6-8 seed. But with Frost and this year's pick along with the other kids coming to support the current core maybe they build a team long term.

I get its a lot of maybes but I see where Hextall is going.

Morgan Frost is currently on pace for 109 points over the 68 game OHL season. That would have been good for third in the league last year.

As Bill pointed out on twitter to me last night... thats not taking into account where his play has been for the past 16 games.. If he keeps that pace up 125 isnt crazy to think about.

Well yeah, even a Read who's lost a step is a better skater than Lehtera, LOL.
I'm just not sure that he'd give you any more than Weise right now. Plus, I think with Konecny, Giroux, Weal and Leier all in the lineup, they are hesitant about putting another mite on the ice.

Do you think Schenn on this Flyers team makes them that much better? We have seen the team with Schenn and it really doesn't. You can't just take his production on the Blues and plug it into the Flyers and be like, "wow, look how much better we would be!"

Probably, but it's hard to say now that the decision isn't Snyder's anymore. How much would 3 consecutive years without playoff revenue affect ownership's decision? I just don't think any of us really know the answer to that question.

Yup, having those 2 on his wings is certainly doing him no favors right now.
- BiggE

Its like when Clarke used to go to Shero and ask to be put with a struggling player to try to get him on track. Give Patrick Voracek and Raffl for a few games.

Exactly. With or without him they are still a bubble team. Happy with the two firsts, hopefully one or both turn into solid NHL players in the future when the Flyers are contenders.

I wasn't suggesting he'd be producing like he is on the blues. Could we use a bigger checking center that puts up 50 points? Absolutely. Would he make the difference of making the playoffs? Probably not. Your info on Frost makes me feel better about it.

Simmonds is finally starting to look like himself, I would leave him with G and Coots for the time being. Colin Mac?, yeah for a game or 2, but face it, there's a reason he's spent most of his career in the minors. I'd rather see if I can just make a hockey deal using Weal to get a better fit for that line.
- BiggE

Understand.

But I think in a 4th line role and the way he forecehcks he could work there.

But I agree. I would try a hockey deal using Weal or I wonder if you could make a swap with Weise. Contracts would have to be similar but maybe you get someone who kills penalties or brings speed.

Yeah. Just not sure what Read can bring. I think once he lost a step he just became less useful.

Plus the Flyers have other guys that they could bring up to help that could be more effective I believe.

If Lindblom keeps playing well, he would be a solid option to place on that 3rd line.

- J35Bacher

Also keep in mind he broke in to the league on a stacked Flyers squad with his speed intact. I believe there's a reason he went undrafted. His speed and the Flyers depth allowed him to build out a nice career. Just a shame it's declined at such a fast rate.

Would love for once to see us not play down to a team.
I want us to jump on them and pound them from the puck drop.
Please not a Coyote repeat letdown!!
