What did he say that was stupid? Saw the press conference, just wondering what was stupid in your mind?

BC Karlssons future has nothing to do with Dorion and has everything to do with Eugene and his petty money pinching vendettas.

Dorion seems like an ok GM, but he is being put in a really tough spot, from an outsiders perspective to be fair, bc of Eugene meddling in contract squabbles

You have a petty owner. Got rid of Turris bc he didnt want him (probably bc of money long term)
Didnt resign Alfie for his final season bc its over money.
Karlsson on Eugenes radar bc he wont take a home town discount...

A guy who is cheap and petty, doesnt matter who is GM, Eugene will run a guy out of town if he feels slighted bc of money talks

- DDM-Coga

You're not necessarily wrong. I still think new ownership gets in place before his contract is up. Just sucks that the NCC is so slow with getting anything moving on the arena front.

Again, this is a slump and it's happening at an inopportune time. Right after the Duchene trade and Karlsson's new contract is asked about. poop was bound to hit the fan when you play as poopty as they have been.

Not sure they can get back in the playoff picture, but it would be even more shocking to see this slump drag into a season long thing. Not the strongest roster in the league, but not the weakest.

That's what was stupid? Not calling out your boss? I don't disagree with your assessment, but Dorion isn't going to say anything to that affect, otherwise he'll be looking for a new gig.

yup it is only protected this year.

Which is why what the sens do can impact the Avs future. They probably are Top 10 this year the way they are going so it will be 2019...but this summer they might be forced to rebuild if the Karlsson situation doesnt end in an extension.

If they start selling, who knows what their pick can be in 2019, could be a lottery pick. They really are in a tough spot this summer, I wonder if they can decide if they want to keep it or not if its 9th or 10th overall if they decide to go into a rebuild. Might be giving up the higher pick now if they start moving out some guys

- DDM-Coga

If it's a top 5 pick, I think you HAVE to take it, regardless. Otherwise you risk missing out both times. If they do decide on a rebuild, I hope they manage to get one or two 1st rounders back to soften the blow. Would be even worse if the lost pick was going to another Eastern team.

Its more the message, of course Dorion is going to say all the right thing and won't say anything negative against ownership

But taking face value of Dorion saying I want to see EK for the next 10 years is lip service, he has no control over such a decision with Eugene around.

I ge what you and the Salad are saying but Ottawas history with Eugene as a owner and contract squabbles, its not leaning for the players side

Yeah

Melynk can say whatever he wants in the public - behind the scenes I don't trust his commitment to this team actually winning. If Playoffs didn't generate revenues I'm sure he'd be fine with playing everyone with an entry level contract

All it was, was a vote of confidence for Boucher and to hopefully settle things down a bit before the home game.

i was talking to my older brother (he's a corporate lawyer in ottawa, some of his colleagues have been on the teams that have helped melnyk "rework" his finances in the past) and he's telling me that melnyk is getting close to the point where he won't have a choice but to sell.

he doesn't have enough capital to keep running the team while at the same time moving forward with the downtown rink project.

he can say whatever he wants in public but the reality is that he can barely afford to keep just the team.....and while the new rink may help in the future, he doesn't appear to have the funds to move forward.

the NCC can't force him to sell the team, but if they want new and more stable ownership, all they have to do is delay the project and melnyk will be sunk and have no choice but to sell (which he's close to already).

he won't come out in public and say "yes, i'm selling the team"....that's like a GM coming out and saying "yes, i have to trade this player".....hurts your negotiating position.

i'm confident that melnyk will not own this team much longer

That may be true, I have no idea.

I thought I heard that he had a partner in the arena project that was mega rich though? Could he not end up owning the arena and the team in partnership with this person. It was a prominent Canadian businessman forget the name.

It was the former Cirque to Soleil guy?

We often hear Melnyk can't afford the team. One wonders if the run lat year would affect that, problaby made him a fair amount of money.
