he either doesnt believe in deadline deals or doesnt think this team is one piece away and wont overpay form a guy. well via a trade cause he sure overpaid c.c and c.c - Upstate_isles
Unless it's with Chia, Garth has no confidence in making deals. There are players out there to help the Isles and would not cost the farm, but it's too much work for Garth to investigate.

I didn't even consider that ranger bashing. Since you're here, what do you think about it? It's mid December and they are facing 30 more road games. - JimmyP
kane would be nice but could we fit his salary? stone played in bingo and the fans hated him then he went up where there was talant around him and now look at him - Upstate_isles
Easily. Acquired players' cap hits get pro-rated depending on how many days remain in the NHL season.
The day of the trade deadline the Islanders can add (according to CapFriendly) $9,236,797 in "full-year" cap hits, prior to moving out any money. So Kane's $5.25M cap hit would only take up about $1,166,666 of Islanders cap space.

So Garth is out of excuses? Cannot blame the Cap or Wang. I guess he can still blame the building.

In all seriousness. I honestly have no idea. Both the Rangers and Isles are like Jekyll and Hyde. Some nights good some nights like they don't give a (frank). Funny thing is the teams underlying stats are so close. Figured you guys would have a little trouble on defense and the Rangers would have trouble on offense. Weird that the Rangers are having more trouble on d and their offense has been decent

Meh, like I said...the demand for Kane will be high and that's only going to drive up his price. I'd steer clear of him.
I'd much rather take a hard run at Mark Stone. He is younger, more talented, a RW, not a dirtbag, and pending RFA. Would probably signal the end for Josh Bailey in an Isles jersey, but he would be a great RW for Tavares going forward.

So do not bet the farm on the Isles or Rangers?
Both teams are frustrating. Just when you think they have things figured out they look horrible.

I do not want Kane. I just meant Garth has no excuse not to make a deal. Getting Stone and saying bye to Bailey works for me.

I'm glad you're here to do this research I'm way to lazy to do
something needs to be done I mean a goalie is out (yes capt that could change) so do we address the d or 3rd line? if the (frank)ing guys playing goal could stop letting in mens league goals that would be a big help - Upstate_isles
I'm sure they are on his "no" list, but if MIN is looking like they might be out of the playoff race by the deadline...I would take a stab at Eric Staal. Shift Beauvillier or Nelson to wing and plug in Staal as the 3C. $3.5M cap hit this year (would be pro-rated for the remainder of this year) and next. MIN is pretty tight to the cap, so I don't think he'd be too expensive to acquire.
Kane would be an interesting choice too, but I suspect market demand will drive his price up too high.
I would pony up a whole (frank)load of assets to try and pry Mark Stone out of OTT. He rules. - eichiefs9
I'd love for them to make a move for Eric Staal. Rangers got him pretty cheap not too long ago. I think Kane would be too much. Is Stone even available??

OTT is a joke. Melnyk is on a shoe-string budget. He traded Turris because he didn't want to pay him what he was going to deserve. The whole organization is a tire fire. They are going to lose Karlsson at some point. Stone is going to be due a big contract after this year and I'd bet you dollars to donuts that if we dangled '18 1st & 2nd, JHS/Beauvillier, and Brock Nelson...he'd bite to save cash. Nelson won't get half of what Stone is worth. They get a cost-controlled young guy for a long time, and some high picks in a pretty good draft to go along with those assets.

Staal would never be able to keep up with the Isles. He was so out of place with the Rangers speed when we got him.
So I guess from a Rangers fan perspective. Go all in for Staal.
