I disagree with you on so much, but we have similar taste in television. Weird

Absolutely. I'm not saying the Laughs are a team that anyone should follow.Far from it. But from my experience, you have to allocate the money correctly. You don't want Kessel and Phaneuf, or Eichel and Risto representing the majority of you salary cap right?
- walshyleafsfan

Eichel and Risto are fine

Okposo, bogo and ror ( to some degree) are a problem

Kessel had 66 points in 152 games his first two years at 19 and 20.

Eichel had 113 points in 142 games at the same age.

They aren't fair comparisons. Eichel will be better

Risto and Phaneuf are pretty comparable

- sbroads24

But he doesn't back check....except when he does.

Trade him!

Is also a phenomenal player, unfairly vilified by USA hockey, and irrationally denied the 2016 Conn Smythe by those in power

Just landed in Vancouver (for work) and rode the train from the airport to the downtown area. Coincidentally, I ran into John Van Boxmeer. I noticed his Sabres travelling bag with the name "Van Boxmeer" on it. I think he was startled when I said "hey John, how are you doing"? As most on here would know, Van Boxmeer is the Sabres west coast pro-scout. He lives in L.A. and is responsible for all pro scouting from Denver westwards.

Anyway, I walked and chatted with him for 15 minutes. Below are some of the key takeaways

- He is in Vancouver scouting the Canucks/Preds tonight.
- he just spent 4 days in San Jose scouting the Sharks. Prior to that, he was in Anaheim for a few days. He is off to Edmonton tomorrow to scout the Oilers/Preds game.
- I asked him about when they were going to trade Kane. He just laughed but he said there definitely is a lot of interest in him.
- I asked him what's going on with Reinhart. He said two things - "skating and heart".
- He thinks the last couple of games they might have turned the corner a bit. He insinuated (didn't say names) that some of the young guys on the team might feel a wee bit entitled. He said particularly the non elite guys who are playing in the NHL have to bring it absolutely every shift.
- we talked about Jack's unorthodox stride. He said because his stride is so long, it can be very deceptive.
- I asked him what Jason Botterill was like. He said very smart and very organized. He said there is a "night and day difference" between Botterill and the previous GM. I'll take that as a positive towards Botts and a negative towards Murray.

He was a really nice guy. We are staying in the same hotel so we might meet up for a beer after the game in the hotel bar. However, if he reads this board, he might take a pass.

My first "insider" contribution. Nothing like Homie or 89' but at least it wasn't the hot dog vendor.

For sure. But you don't build your team around those type of guy's. Right? Maybe I'm wrong.x

He will be a fringe NHL'er that ends up on better teams providing effective depth in limited minutes and continues to produce at a 40-50 point clip for his entire career, a.k.a. Same Gagner 2.0. in 5 years. I'm calling it

I think Eichel, absolutely.

Risto, absolutely not. He's an ok player, not much more.

Our first pair should be a 2nd pair on a good team

Talk smack when your team wins the cup in a league with more than 6 teams

You're vilifying Kessel who was arguably the best player on the 2016 penguins

I could totally see Sam Gagner.

Funny thing is, Sam Gagner was called over rated for so long, that he eventually became under rated.

He won't be in the league in 5 years. I'm calling it
- sbroads24

A 3 year bridge deal at ~$10M with escalating celery. He'll get a 3rd contract just based on his draft status alone.

Patrik Stefan was in the league for 7 years, and he never had more than 14 goals and 40 points.

Daigle lasted 10, 11 if we didn't have the lost season.

Aside from catastrophic injury/illness he'll still be playing in 5 years.

So this is what I'm foreseeing:

Botts trades Kane at the deadline for maximum return to a bubble team on a hot streak. I have no idea to what team but I'm going to say Dallas as a wild card, with Spezza and a couple few prospects coming back.

1 year of Spezza with salary absorbed as a stipulation would do wonders for Jack, IMO.

Then at the draft, make moves to acquire the first pick if the lottery is awarded to Edmonton, trade them Okposo, Lehner's rights, one of Scandella/Antipin/McCabe , swap them our 1st and add if (definitely needed) to take Dahlin.

Hello Ullmark-Era.

EDIT: I forgot to add Okposo to the Edmonton trade

I'd be surprised if he get's more than a 1 year at this pace.

He's on pace for 25-27 points. You don't hand out 3.3 mil for that

It would be a Botts move, IMO, from what we have seen so far. He likes his vets and Spezza isn't exactly Molson.

His experience would do wonders for the locker room, I think.

Interesting take......for the right price I could see that in a particular role, short term only of course.

He also invested in Bitcoin though, so he'll need a part time job
- sbroads24

You think Bitcoin is going to crash?

They've been saying that for years it can't get any bigger and it's at $16K today. Since 1/16 it's only had 7 months of negative growth and never for more than 2 months in a row. And always destroying the loss(gaining the loss and then adding value) in a single month-except the one time it lost value 2 months in a row. Then it took 2 months to gain back the loss and add value.- This type of growth from the last 6 or so months is obviously unsustainable, and I see a huge bubble coming losing ~50% of its value, but ultimately I think it'll settle somewhere around $10K. People will always need the service it provides and only more and more into the future.

But who the (frank) knows? It's totally uncharted territory. I would guess federal regulations would have the biggest impact. i.e. making it harder to launder money and other illegal activities.

I honestly would be the total wrong person to have an opinion on it.

I havent spent more than 5 minutes reading about it.

He's shown speed and finishing ability with Eichel. Give him 10 games to see what he can do. Worst case scenario he's a 3rd round bust, best case scenario, he can finish on Jack's passes. The alternatives are pominville and Okposo who haven't shown much with Eichel
- jcragcrumple

10 games isn't enough. You need at least half a season to let the kid get adjusted. Up for 3 games down for 3 months, or up for 10 games but only playing 8 minutes a night is not going to get it done.

It's like playing John Scott on Grigorenko's wing. WTF are you trying to accomplish?

Pretty funny, my former employer, IBM many years ago sent me to a management training class, where one of the modules was thinking under duress...
so they:
A) hooked my toe up to a up to small vice, where upon they excerted slight pressure at an increasing rate (it was light weight to be sure, mind you nothing craz, but you could certainly feel it)
B) put my arm and hand in very cold water with tons of ice in it
C) had me watch a clock that was clearly running faster than the norm

The. asked me to count backwards by alternating rounds of 3 then 7 from 1,000 to get it done in, I think it was like 7 minutes

All the while talking BS to me about my job responsibilities.

The point was to show how the mind can falter under duress.

Funny as hell, I won... I don’t honestly remember but I got down to like 100 with no mistakes...i’m Normally very calm in stressful situations..except on here when Bourbon is involved.
