How does a guy play 40 nhl games, trying to make an impact, and take only 3 penalties?

I know: penalties hurt the team ect.

But if your not scoring , do something other then skating fast back and forth.
Most of us would have 3 penalties in our first few nhl games

Exactly. And, that's the thing, they already are hundreds of miles away from one another, Atlanta and Virginia, they should never meet up with one another.

There were little things in the beginning that i overlooked, like "why doesn't everyone wear armor and heavy leather clothing to prevent bites?" Those things build over time

I would still tune back in if/when they finally start world building or move on. The desires of the characters just don't make sense anymore. They say they want to survive, but they war with factions instead of leaving and moving to more desirable locations with better assets. The prison kind of made sense, but they didn't see the idea through. I would be way more inclined to watch a show where they build up their resources and work to create a stable provisional government, especially now that the walkers aren't the threat they were earlier in the show.

Maybe i would watch that show and it would be boring anyway.

TLDR; the show squandered an opportunity to show the descent, bottom and resurrection of society, and focused on the bottom too long

7 seasons is a long time to stagnate on the same types of bad guys in very similar settings. Nothing ever changes on the show, except new characters

I’m confused what does this have to do with heart ? Because I know for a fact he trains every day and in the summertime he plays in beer leagues and also trains with NHL players
