You are correct in pointing out that the figures are outdated before they are printed. The Sens figures are higher than they should be because they include revenue from playing 3 rounds in the playoffs last year. Carolina will be moving to Houston - I am fairly confident. They are dead last in attendance this year and their ticket prices are low - not a good combo. The new owner is a Texan and Houston will support a team. - winsix
He's signed an agreement saying that he can't apply to move the team for at least 7 years, which also happens to be when the Hurricanes lease is up.
He might move them, but it won't be for a while yet.
Also the attendance appears lower than what teams like Florida, Jersey, and the Isles report because the Hurricanes only count actual butts in seats instead of tickets given away/sold.
They've cut down the number of tickets they give away from about 3,000 per night to around 500. Their attendance numbers from the good years of 16,500+ were artificially inflated and the team was still losing money. They changed their strategy and, while the attendance numbers look way worse, they've actually been doing better financially. |

i bet melynk was banking on playoffs this year to support an inflated sales price.
if he doesn't get his price, he may not sell...which will be glorious |

I see it the other way. Tell me who the worst player on the Leafs is. I'll bet you that he scores a goal on Friday. |

Melnyk reminds me of a bad player playing the Monopoly board game. Buys Boardwalk and Park Place. Put hotels on both of them. Has nothing else of value. No one lands on them and ends up having to sell and mortgage the properties and goes bankrupt. |

The seven year no-movement is fairly standard. Those clauses - just like say a NTC (Stanton for example) can be negotiated.
Remember:
Take it as public posturing if you will, but Karmanos, who bought the Whalers in 1994 and moved the franchise from Hartford, Conn., to Raleigh in 1997, has maintained he would only sell his majority stake to a buyer who agreed to stay put.
Can't believe that piece of sh!t Karmanos is in the Hall of Fame. |

Ok. All Leaf fans are welcome to vote. When you guys decide just who is the worst player on the Leafs, I will bet that he scores on Friday. I'll also say that Marner gets a hat trick. |

I haven’t seen the actual terms of sale, but in almost all cases, there will be a clause that allows the new owner to move the franchise if certain conditions on attendance are not met.
Which inevitably becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy; the owner purposely neglects the team so that fans stay away.
Should be inteesting - it always is with ownership in the NHL. |

I really hope Dundon opens his wallet. Don Waddell gave an interview last night and said Dundon has a bunch of ideas he wants to implement immediately when the paperwork is finally approved by the league. |

I don't think the NHL is ready to move any team that has won a cup before.
Unless I'm wrong that the North Stars or Whalers won prior to moving... |

Yeah, I think Arizona moves first. They've got arena issues and Andrew Barroway's net worth is well under a billion dollars (Forbes estimated it at around $50 million when he bought full control of the Coyotes). |

Karlsson is Karlsson, might play injured or something but he's one of, if not the best defenseman in the game today.
Phaneuf is a solid 2nd pairing option, despite all of you hating him.
Ceci sucks and is overrated as balls.
Borowiecki sucks
Oduya is over the hill.
You might be on to something Bingo old pal.... I guess Methot WAS important to them.

Has big money, so he can make improvements, but he's also not going to want to bleed money to be an owner. The thing that could help keep the team there are the ties to golf.

Whalers won the first WHA championship and that's about it. They've been in Raleigh for longer than they were in Hartford (in the NHL) now. |
