If they had the cap space to offer Stamkos a contract they definitely have the space for Taveras. - bobbyisno1
Leafs can just offer him sponsorship space. |

Re-sign JVR, 8x5.5
Sign Tavares 7x10
Trade for Karlsson, re-sign him for 8x11
Trade Matthews, Marner, and Nylander because of cap problems. Which is what you get for letting a bird be GM. |

thanks for taking phaneuf.
lol @ sens - Tumbleweed
I still can't believe the Sens took that contract from around the Leafs' neck, right when it was exactly what they needed. I didn't even hate Phaneuf like some, but if your rival has a major contract problem you don't solve it for them. Lol @ Sens. |

Hopefully they shut Matthews down for a week or two. Rather him be fully healed then limp through the year at not 100%.
Problem is they have a bunch of games in December still. Good thing they have some points banked and the young guys can step up. |

What’s wrong with Borgman?
The other three can suck it. - Steven_Seagull
Borgman is looking like he's going to be a cracking player. This is year 1 for the 22 year old Swede. Doesn't look out of place at all. Imagine him at 25. |

And then they traded for Alex (frank)ing Burrows and extended him. |

I think they'll do whatever it takes for Matthews. These guys are in for the long haul, not short term gains |

Just some strange moves. To be honest, there was a time where a couple of clever decisions could've made them excellent. Unfortunately for them, they made the complete wrong decisions. |

I'm disillusioned, because Spatso had me convinced they were legitimate contenders this year. But I guess that was just summer talk. |

He hasnt brought the same intensity after the first injury. I can guarantee it is not a concussion, but for sure he was "shaken" up again within regards of his upper body injury (the first one). Which is definitely something with his back (previous injuries in earlier career). Just let him fully heal, we will do okay without him. |

Agreed, leafs will make a similar offer to Tavares with sponsorship side cash like they did for Stamkos. If he signs, excellent. If he says no, then whatever, no hard feelings. If he resigns with Isles, all the best to him. If he signs with another team though, kind of a low blow to us but he can easily just target the money. Habs will definitely offer more than the leafs will. And all that nonsense of leafs offering a 1-2 year deal max deal for tavares, is a load of poop. Take the 7 years for him and if later on we are cap stricted, you move players for assets. Not that difficult. |

They should offer them $10mil per for BOTH. Then tell them they get the percentage of their contribution to their combined points. So if they combine for 100 pts and Marner scores 60 of them, he gets 6mil.
Where do I pick up my GM cheque? - markmark
Seeing how we can get all 3 signed in the summer... I can see this happening.
Marner, 5-6M per for 8 years
Nylander, 6-6.5M for 8 Years
Matthews, 10-11M for 8 years.
I cant see Marner making more than 6M for his production, and i cant see nylander making more than 6.5 or over 7M due to ehlers or pastranak numbers + new cap hits |

Honestly when he got popped, I thought it was upper arm or head injury. It’s pretty quiet right now but he is travelling with the team.
Anyone see the press conference with Babcock. Sounds like he isn’t allowed to talk to much to the players when they are injured. Don’t want the players to be influenced or “pressured” by the coach. He seems to be a bit in the dark as well.

Play looked way too soft to be a head injury, but I can see him re aggravating the previous one or yeah his upper arm. Yeah it sucks that we cant know, but I hope he recovers fully and brings his intensity and A+ game back with confidence. |

What lineup would you guys go for if this was a possible lineup scenario for next year?
Not touching the defense pairings, as the only way we improve defense is through trade, or we sign veteran defenders in free agency.
The only guys i can see the leafs keeping is Rielly, Hainsey and Zaitsev on defense. I can see the leafs using gardiner in a trade, and the remaining spots are all up for grabs by prospects or veteran free agency signings. |

Hes a great addition, and loves to carry the puck in and provide some offense. Polak is definitely gone. Carrick i can see gone as well or just resigned for a 7th defender. Gardiner needs to be traded for a more stable 2 way defender. Then there is potential veteran free agency signings or prospects like Liljegren.
Id love to see something like this:
Rielly- Hainsey
Hamhuis-Zaitsev
Borgman- Liljegren
or
Rielly-_____(top 4 defender acquired)
Hamhuis-Zaitsev
Borgman-Hainsey |
