it doesn't make a ton of sense for a team that won't make the playoffs this year to mortgage the future for 1.5 years of karlsson.

but idk, mabye in chiarelli's world it makes sense.

especially with how the Sens are (frank)ed in this situation bc there is no way they can resign him. Only reason this is a trade idea is bc he wont go below market value.

What team is going to throw 3 or 4 prime assets to resign a guy to a heavy contract. Just so they can get him a year early?

Team will wait out Dorion, after botching the Duchene trade he has a lot of pressure on him now and really cant afford to wait.

Oh wow, this is brutal.

1. The deals with the Oilers... haha! Draisaitl and Nuge and Nurse and a 1st And Lucic???? I mean, let’s make this fair, throw in McDavid and 100 of new arena income.

2. Okay Toronto fans, you have an excellent team, and you’re doing great. But trading Marner and a couple of bottom 6 players? Way to overvalue your team.

The reason these offers do not make sense is because of the REASON Karlsson May leave-salary. So, offering great players who total $15-20 million per in salary makes zero sense. Plus, Erik’s contract in 2 years will be gross, and covering his 30’s. Plus his injury history. Ottawa will want young up and comers who are NHL ready, blue chip prospects, and 1st rounders.

Jay-Bo? Great! What other old players do you have that would help the Sens kick-start their rebuild off in style?
- Mr_Clean

you can trade them Phaneuf and take him back in said trade

That trade may have cost Dorion his job.

I love the way Karlsson is playing right now

Last 12 games
1 assist
0 goals
-16

So what you are saying is that Karlsson has quit on the Senators, and is forcing them to trade him?

Wow. This is earth-shattering.

And if I'm reading between the lines here properly, you say that the trade will basically come down to Karlsson for Gardiner and Leivo and a 3rd rounder?

Double-wow.

The same way teams were going to out wait Sakic?

Granted, now its the Gm who made that trade so it's different, but it's interesting you've done a complete 180 now that you're team isn't the one with the star player.

how many drinks has Karlsson bought you?

Doughty > Karlsson

My biggest regret in life was not saving the picture my buddy that lives in LA sent me of a blatantly sloppy, poop-faced Doughty hanging all over his GF. He texted it to me with the caption "Doughty is hitting on my GF directly in front of me and yelling at me to buy him drinks"

Apparently Dion is every Long Islander between the ages of 14 and 70, drunkenly belting out Joel like he would be imprisoned if he didn't.

First, I am deadly against trading Karlsson, but because I am bored, while I get what you are saying, if teams actually did that, there would be no trades essentially. Brining in a guy like Erik Karlsson a year early would be a “win now” move. Load up for a run while he is on a bargain contract.

Sitting around waiting for guys to go to UFA is not the best way to build a winner. Would it really be a bad move for a team like Winnipeg (just as an example) to get Karlsson to try and make a run? Especially if offers like the ones proposed on this site get it done?

If the Islanders are trading for Karlsson, you should totally make Phaneuf part of the package.

I think AP + a lot of futures would be the sort of move the Sens would make if they were going to move him. Only I think they would go for someone a bit younger than Pietrangelo if possible.

Of course, if the Senators move on from Karlsson, it won't matter to me because I'll be moving on from the Senators

- Mr_Clean

Blues would never actually make the deal Ek suggested. Some new poster suggested it just because he had a hard on to get into an Ek blog for some reason, knowing it was completely ridiculous.

They tried, but Dorion finally bite the bullet and that has to do more with your owner wanting him more than Turris. If Eugene didnt stick his nose in hockey ops (as the rumours say) this wouldnt have happened and Sakic probably still would be waiting this out

I havent done a 180 at all, I have always said if they dont get full value for Duchene that they should keep him. I didnt want to see him move pennies on the dollar.

They didnt get what they wanted but got a damn good secondary multi piece haul back. The same can happen for EK, but with how public this full market value talk already is, and him struggling right now, they better figure this out sooner rather than later bc it wont be loooking good for the Sens if Eugene gets involved again in a major trade

Should have stated that offers that never would happen are the ones you'd consider taking. Pietrangelo being part of the trade is moronic at best and ZERO chance at happening.

There is merit in going after a guy early, but whens the last time a team has thrown 3 or 4 Prime future core or already young core players in a trade.

The sens will get a big return on him, but they arent getting the Eklund Karlsson for Lucic, Draistaitl, RNH one of Klefbom/Nurse/Larsson and a first

Remember this all comes down to money for Eugene. If he doestn want to pay fair market value for EK, he isnt going to add 18-20m in salary on players he gets in a trade
