Interesting scene in Ottawa right now and you guys are having some great back and forth on them being a potential trading partner.
I'm looking into whether the Hawks have reached out but it would make a ton of sense.
OTT is falling off the rails quick, tanking after dealing Turris (due to future financial reasons) and now with the Karlsson / everyone give me your no-trade lists... it's not pretty.
The guys that make the most sense from the Hawks perspective of who the player is, age and term, while also keeping in mind what the Hawks have to offer are:
Pageau
Zack Smith
Nate Thompson
Gabriel Dumont
Ottawa doesn't have a ton of cap space (2.7M according to capfriendly) but are looking to go into savings mode.
The Hawks are sitting with about 2.2M in the Hossa slush fund.
So money would have to be pretty even which is why a Brassard and/or Hoffman might be out of the question unless AA goes the other way.
Ottawa and Dorion need a "win" in any way so getting their hands on a Hawks prospect may be something they have in mind.
If Zack Smith made a little less, he's the exact "character type" player I've been talking about; a guy the Hawks would love (and have liked in the past). He just doesn't have a contract they love. e to
Pageau is a guy they may have interest in as well.
Let you guys know if I hear of anything! - Justin Lowe
Justin you would think either panik or AA would have go in any trade. Out of those players what player has the best chance of hawks making a trade to get. |

Yeah my thoughts exactly. The more time he spends playing with the systems that the coaching staff has implemented the better he gets. It's all about comfort. He could be what we've been missing for some time. |

The kind of defenceman that creates a nice push back in a (dare I say) playoff series!
He's really gotten his confidence going and playing with a purpose (as Q would say) |

As someone who was very disturbed at Murphy's play earlier which got him healthy scratched, he has really progressed by leaps and bounds. Good for him--and good for the Hawks |

I'm with you on the AA or Panik, just using the rationale that I'm not sure who else with salary that they would consider moving.
I can't see anyone wanting Panik right now considering the slump he's in. Or should I say, someone might want him, but Hawks might not get the return they want.
I'm not so sure the Hawks would want to trade AA, to be honest.
The player on Ottawa with the best chance of becoming a Hawk? I can see Pageau over most suggested. His 3.1M with 3 years left is not an ideal contract the Hawks like to take on, but he's young and shouldn't cost them a ton.
Not a rumour, but Panik + a prospect might get it done, if Dorion likes Panik's game.

Following up to this, the Hawks won't make a trade just because Dorion is having a Christmas sale.
Stan will only be pulling the trigger if it makes sense. If they could land a depth centre and Stan can stomach giving up a player + potentially a pick/prized prospect, then I can easily see it happening.
However, if the Hawks win tonight, that's 3-games in row and Bowman & Q can take a breather before they head to Winnipeg on Thurs.

Not a great looking hit on Rutta. Will be surprised if he returns.

The Hawks knew this... Bergevin just wore Stan down to include him in that deal.
The Hawks PR narrative was "well we have Kruger, no need for a guy like Danault" which was bull.
They knew Kruger's contract was going to be an issue if there was no other cap relief.
Should be a Hawk still IMO. Q liked him a lot and he'd be getting tons of d-zone starts on a shutdown line, taking pressure off Toews for faceoffs. - Justin Lowe
Danault should still be here - one of Bowman's worst moves and he got hot garbage back instead of the Dman the Hawks needed that spring. See Troy Brouwer in game 7 in St. Louis for reference.
As far as Kruger excellent PK man and d zone specialist who filled a specific need, but you couldn't pay him that money with what had been tied up in 19 and 88. Kruger is another player this team is definitely missing this season along with of course 81.
And now you've got neither - but you've got Panik's cap hit at 2.8m per - Brilliant! |
