Whatever the final result, tonight will be a big test for this team both mentally and physically. Can the Hawks elevate their compete level tonight to take on the #1 team in the division? Do they have the horses in the stable to be able to match up to the Jets even if they do "try hard"? I'm simply hoping for a playoff style intensity battle where the Hawks keep it competitive. 2 points would be great but playing the right way is the most important thing for me to see tonight.

The Jets always have the Hawks number in the past, so it will be tough for sure.

Take it for what it is, but EK has info up that the Preds might be looking at Evander Kane. Geezus lets hope that is false. Evander on the Preds?

My point is for the most part they don't spend to the hilt and there have been questions about Melnyk's finances as well. My point is Ottawa isn't like Montreal or Toronto or any major US market,

If the NHL was considering expansion today, Ottawa's application would be eliminated early.

They are going all in for the Cup this year, as they should. They have a loaded lineup and a healthy Pekka Rinne. Would have loved to see the Hawks try to acquire Kyle Turris......Duchene is Turris >> Duchene so I cannot understand that trade for Ottawa....

The NHL got lucky with Vegas and as it looks Seattle paying the line.
First issue for the NHL should be relocating a couple of the weak sisters.

It was a very good trade for Ottawa from this standpoint-They were not going to pay Turris, so they got a player who most think is as good as Turris, is younger and has some cap certainty.

Apparently, they're going to want new ownership of a relocated team to pay the same $650MM that an expansion team would pay - for the team and for the relocation fee to the league.

That's pure (frank)ery. Why would anyone want to buy a team AND pay the relocation fee. Just start a new one.

Pyatt, Dzingel and Thompson, in that order of preference are the only guys on Ottawa’s roster that would work with the cap and only Kempny’s money moving out.

Forget Pageau, Brassard, or anyone over $2MM.

And please no Oduya reunion.....

Duchene might be one of the most overrated players in the league, IMO. Kyle Turris is a more complete player and has very similar offensive abilities. Why would Ottawa not pay him the same contract Nashville just gave him? 6 years at $6mil for Turris seems very fair. Cannot believe that Nashville has the Johansen-Turris center combo locked in for the next half decade....

Turris said management wanted to sign him but the owner didn't.

Because Duchene’s contract is up way sooner than a re-signed Turris would be. I think Ottawa is hunkering down in prep for the upcoming strike as they do not have very deep pockets to enter a war of attrition with.

Yep I heard the same...Although Florida has ownership with very deep pockets they probably are getting tired of bleeding red ink....Carolina was just sold. The NHL deosn't want to move Cup winners like the NJ and NYI but Arizona is wasteland and needs to be moved and that will likely be the first one to go.

I wrote about why franchise values in pro sports and have been soaring in value on Xpressbet.com...I like some others believe it is because legalized sports betting is coming in the near future. It isn't due to attendance or TV ratings going up.

So that's why the Houston Rockets sold for $1.2 or 3 billion recently and the Florida Marlins have increased in value by $500 mill in the last 4 years.

Enzo not going to debate your opinion of Duchene but most GM's would have traded Turris for Duchenen straight up, age and contract certainty has a lot to do with the value involved with Duchene.

We have discussed why Ottawa doesn't spend to the cap limit. The Preds have the best defense in the league and are young, they can afford to pay a more experienced complete player like Turris.

When I watch Duchene I see a perimeter player on the wing. Turris is a 200ft center that is responsible defensively, can fly, and make plays on offense. If it was my team, I'd take Turris over Duchene every day of the week. Look at Ottawa's record since making the Turris for Duchene swap!

I'm not going to make an assesment of Duchene until nest year. He's been through a lot and making a lot of money just adds pressure, not to mention the Sens record since he got there. After a full summer I think his head will be clear and if he's going to be the man it won't be until next year if ever.
