It really would depend on the buyers and market but I would be looking to move Plekanec, Shaw, Benn, and Niemi.

I would entertain offers for Pacioretty as well.

As far as return it’s hard to speculate without having one (or 20) people tell you how stupid you are, but I would shoot for 2nd + for Plek and Shaw. 3rd rdr for Benn, and anything for Niemi.

But sometimes GM’s trade a crazy amount for a role player assuming their finishing top 4 in the final league standings so they move their 1st to make a deal happen.

Not saying anyone I mentioned would draw that return but that’s also why sellers let thing go down to the trade deadline wire, just in case a rival gets panicky.

If that's all they can leverage for Shaw who's actually had a strong season I'd say fire Bergevin right now. Trading Pacioretty seems really smart to me because he's going to command more then he's worth in a couple of years, and they can likely get a nice return. Agree on Plekanec they can retain salary too.

The problem is that it should be another guy than Bergevin making these moves at the deadline. His inflated ego will never allow him to trade Weber. I don't recall a GM being fired mid-season. So, it won't happen.

Those idiots will still be in the mix come trade deadline and they will make a last resort move to try and salvage the season, and end up missing the playoffs by a female genitalia hair.

If we're talking about rebuilding and trading assets, I think most, if not all, players are available. Now, the question is a what are their value. Here's my thinking, in alphabetical order:

Alzner: Trade. Don't think he has much value, though. Contract is terrible. Don't trade and retain salary, so most likely, we keep him.

Benn: Trade. Get at least a 3rd rounder, I don't think it's unrealistic.

Paul Byron: Not sure again. Depends on value. Really good contract, works great, good example for upcoming kids. Again, you will need bodies to fill the team. High 2nd or higher, go for it. Anything less, ride it out and see if he can get any better.

Danault: Keep. He's young a good C for us. And on the plus side, he's French.

De la Rose: No value, so might as well keep him.

Drouin: Keep.

Galchenyuk: Keep. You won't get value for him.

Gallagher: Keep. Unless you get a 1st rounder, which I don't expect. Again, you need to build around something. He's still young and you might name him captain of the team.

Hemsky: Buy-out (just kidding, use him to fill the roster until the end of the year, anyway, his contract is up, but man... he's terrible!).

Hudon: Keep. Good player and he's French, so, you know...

Jerabek: Keep, of course.

Lehkonen: Keep. Still young and more value on the team than in trade.

Lindgren: Keep. Bring him up.

Mete: Do I really need to specify keep? I'd also say play him more...

Montoya: Keep. He's terrible, he has no value but you'll still need a back-up.

Morrow: Trade? I don't think he has much trade value... A 4th rounder might get it done.

Niemi: Trade (haha!). If you get a 5th, you run with it. Otherwise, just bury him in the minors.

Pacioretty: Definite trade. Is supposed to be the heart and soul of this team, and clearly, since he was named captain, the leadership has been missing. He's also way too streaky and his new contract will kill us against the cap. His value right now is super low, so keep him as long as you can and trade at the trade deadline. I'd expect a 1st + prospect.

Petry: Trade. 2nd rounder +. I think his contract might scare a few teams, but I don't think I'd retain salary on this one. More like a Draft tradeable asset.

Plekanec: Trade. Retain as much salary as you can to maximize return. Anyway, his contract is up at the end of the year and you have a ton of cap space. If you can get a 1st rounder by retaining 90% salary, you do it. Of course, that's probably not realistic, so 50% retained for a 2nd rounder+ would be good.

Price: Trade. By the time this team is competitive, he'll be too old and way too expensive. Not sure what you'll get with his insane contract. I hope it's least a 1st, a high center prospect and current 2nd liner. You may keep some of his salary to get a better deal, like 10%, but nothing higher.

Schlemko: Keep, I guess. I haven't seen him much to know what he brings and his value.

Shaw: Trade. 2nd rounder, and retain some salary, like 20-25%, for a high-risk-prospect.

Weber: Keep. You won't get fair value and you'll need a good defenseman on this team to teach the youngsters. You'll trade later on when the team is better and his cap hit becomes a problem to a low-cap team.

I don't think anyone in Laval has any value, aside maybe from Juulsen, who I'd keep, so I don't care who goes or stays. But you'll need to ice a team, so don't give everyone away either.

Under this scenario, the lineup would look something like:

Galchenyuk - Drouin - Byron
Lehkonen - Danault - Gallagher
Carr - De la Rose - Hudon
Deslauriers - Froese - McCarron
Hemsky - Terry

Weber - Mete
Alzner - Jerabek
Juulsen - Schlemko
Morrow

Lindgren
Montoya

Terrible lineup, but that's kind of the point. There are still some good young players that you can surround better and complement with good drafting.
