Congrats, the Flames are 6 points better than the Avs but have played 2 more games.
youre a minus -6 in goals differential, avs are -4.
Youre playing equal to the Avs....not a good look for the Flames after giving up 9 draft picks in the past 2 years for 3 Dmen and a goalie. - DDM-Coga
Ten draft picks for 3 dmen and two goalies actually. Can't forget that we gave away OHL current mvp Jordan Kyrou for Elliott and have absolutely nothing to show for it. |

LOL, relax Deadmarsh...
You're still below us in the standings (horrendously so last year), so we get to poke fun. That's the (hockeybuzz) rule. |

A little misleading, the pick was dealt - just so happens that's who STL drafted. Flames also drafted Dube, Parsons, Fox and Philipps after Kyrou was selected, so I wouldn't get that worked up about it. Some trades work, others don't |

And let's also evaluate these deals:
Hamilton for Senyshyn, Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson and Jeremy Lauzon
I will take the best player in that deal, these guys are not a major boon to the farm system
Unknowns for Hamonic (as far as draft picks) So far, not lottery pick impacting. If it becomes so, there might be some cause for concern. Hamilton took some time to settle in, I think we'll be fine on this trade.
2nd and conditional 3rd for Elliott. We needed a goalie. This deal did not work out, we moved on. It happens
3rd and Hickey for Smith - no complaints here
If you aren't moving a lottery/top 5 pick, and you can pickup known quantities, it's generally a risk worth taking. Would have preferred it be the 2017 1st, not a 2018, but that might be a delta of a few picks, and we are pretty happy with Vallimaki. |

Including Senyshyn in the Hamilton trade doesn't make sense though because Calgary wouldn't have necessarily drafted him, especially with Chabot, Barzal, Boeser, and Connor left on the board. Picking those guys absolutely makes a difference (though I wouldn't take that trade back if I were Calgary). |

Fair enough, yes, can't make the argument one way with Kyrou and not the other way.
They paid a hefty price, but it's for a legit top pairing guy, which none of those who were drafted in/around that pick were.
But a fair callout. |

Agreed, Hamilton is for real and they really beefed up their defence right now opposed to getting Chabot for later, who's left handed anyways.
I enjoy a good call out as well, glad you could take it |

Could have been Kyrou, Sam Girard, Debrincat, Hajek.. Tons of players slipped out of the 1st round that year. |

Fair, but honestly, the Flames had the picks to move, needed a goalie and got the best available that wouldn't cost them Tkachuk |

True, and I think most of us would rather have Dube than Kyrou anyway. Never bad day when you leave that round with Parsons and Dube.
Can't agree that he was the best available. Just always saw him as a backup that could battle the odd win out when needed. Weird to think about where we'd be if we ante'd up for Reimer and offered him 5x3.4 to match Florida.
Tre had to be sitting on a price for Smith at that draft too. Would be interesting to see that price compared to what we ended up paying. |
