What?

You do this every time to provoke and have no desire for discussion but not for your sake but the thread the premise is the Canucks have a cap problem.

The Canucks are not a cap floor team and so your hypothesis wouldn't work in the real world. They do have the cap space to take an Erhoff type deal for cap tapped team. But with so many NTC's out there its not something to bank on.

No I said it wasn't feasible, as in not likely, but the cap space does exist.

I think they would have a good draft with him or without him as long as Brackett is pulling the strings
- VANTEL

The GM has last say on picks, especially the first few rounds, later rounds they default to their amateur scouting staff.

Outside of the Boeser pick I'm not really thrilled with his drafting ability from 2014 to 2016.

The Sedins will still be here when Erikssons contract is finally up

I understand the want for Benning to return by the fans . I am just looking at his over all tenure and not just the last 6 months.

Our bar is set low here to the point that we are defending a player with one goal in 100 games and saying a 6 million dollar player is having a good year with 5 goals.

We need to raise our expectations and not settle for sub par

- VANTEL

My view is slightly different, the current results of his tenure leave much to be desired but the impact of his tenure seems to be a very positive one. There are definitely a ton of negatives in the current situation, but for me when I think of the Canucks in 5 years he will have selected many of the core players that will carry the franchise

That LE contract is just frustrating.
- Nucker101

Yes maybe but not losing sleep over it. After all its only 8% of the cap.

Asking a question is provocative?

The Canucks do have a cap problem, they are at or near the max and they are a garbage team.

Sure beats the previous regime with such stellar picks as Patrick White, Jordan Shroeder, Prab Rai and Jann Suave.

That's a pretty decent amount considering that 1 player is just 4.5% of the roster.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Mike Gillis apologist, however, he wasn't drafting top six three out of four years and they had enough sense to take Bo Horvat and I suppose sign Chris Tanev and draft Hutton as a serviceable third pairing dman.

Benning has made hits and misses along the way . That is why there are people for him and against him. I don't think he is doing a terrible job nor do I think he is doing a great job. I would be open to exploring other options.

And it's stupid to assume that they'll take him. There's a chance, but to bank on it is laughable.

Combined with the twins it is 25 % plus . Their contact ends but they will get at least 5 each next year.

I disagree, he plucked a lot of NHL talent, just pissed it away.

Oh wait, you said “I’m not thrilled”, I guess I can’t disagree with an opinion, only offer my own

$29M cap space this summer and $45M in 2019 off season. They can design roster around them. Not likely to happen but on paper there is room cap wise.
- Nuck4U

They only have like 13 players signed next year and I'm guessing Boeser will be getting some bonuses. Need to fill 10 roster spots with $29M or less. If you sign a 10M+ dollar player then that's getting into unrealistic territory.

Now take out LE's 6M and it looks very possible.

Teams get desperate for dmen and centers.
