Dan not convince of that. The ISlanders need big defensive men who can clear the zone play the body and play defense. That is what this team is lacking right now. They do not have that established defense man yet - kasperrko
because they don't exist. this is not 1997, the role has evolved. you can have an average defense if you posses the puck and OEL can clear the zone with ease |

This is why players like Toews and Aho can be so valuable. They can hopefully skate or pass the puck out of trouble. |

If they get one of those they'll also need a time machine to go back to an era where that type of player was useful - eichiefs9

yes that is why those players are so exciting and Griffin Reinhart is a career minor leaguer |

Exciting to think about the benefits to the offense as well. A top 4 built around Leddy and someone like Trouba with Toews and Aho. |

I know that I'm in the minority on this one, but I could not care less if any Islander ever wins an individual award. Don't care if Barzal gets the Calder, JT the Hart/Art Ross/Rocket Richard, Halak the Vezina...none of those things matter to me.
I'm happy if they do win it, but if someone gets "robbed" or anything like that...I won't bat an eye. |

I loved watching players like Morrow and Langevin back in the day, but it is a very different game now. |

Woof, didn't see this. That could be a bad injury, still no news. Probably not good news for the Devils, but that injury could have some interesting ramifications in the Metro. |

we see barzal play nightly and he has been fantastic but keller and boeser and sergachev have been outstanding as well. I agree, could care less who wins the award, bottom line is this team is so much better because of barzal |

Most are. The Vezina is voted on by all 31 GM's.
Hart/Norris/Selke/Masterson/Lady Byng are voted on by the PHWA. |

Exactly. I love Barzal and as long as he keeps doing what he's doing (and keeps getting better) I don't care about his individual achievements. |

Yea I don't much care about the award as it's time we hit on a big time player not #1 overall.....lee also counts. All I was saying is it's about time we got a top rookie and about time we make a big trade and go for it. The boeser thing was a side note |

Looks like they are juggling PPs for balance:
Klingberg, Honka, Spezza, Radulov, Janmark
Seguin, Lindell, Benn, Hanzal, Shore
PP is 1-for-34, and hasn't scored in past five games.
This would likely fall into the "good news" category, for us. |

I pretty much agree with this. The only reason I like to see the individual recognition for some of the Isles is that I believe the "star players" may receive marginally better treatment from the refs. (Not you, upstate, you're totally unbiased. ). So in that sense it benefits the team. |

Yeah, I'd love to see it. Just not something I place much importance on. It does definitely give the team some better optics in the public eye, but I'm not overly concerned with that. |

Well I still think you need a defense man on every team. Somoene who actually knows what defense is. I understand that the game has changed and all but you still need that body. Defense wins championships not offense. If your defense and goalie give up nothing you can score one goal every game and win the cup |
