Meh -- that's a massive price no matter what. No single player has been traded for a haul like that in recent memory, especially not in the standard two-team trade. If you (not you) want to swap Soderstrom for Halak or Greiss and remove one of Pulock or Toews then it starts becoming a little more reasonable. Otherwise...pass.
OEL is a fantastic hockey player, but he's not some sort of untouchable superstar. - eichiefs9
I have to agree. We need hockeyman to give us a full scouting report on this OEL guy. Is he really this good? |

Let's put it this way. Yes he is THAT good.
The problem with Gaines' offer is that NO D-MAN currently in this league is worth the trade he offered. |

2. Oliver Ekman-Larsson
OEL is my poop. He's one of 2 defensemen in this tier that I'd label "perfect" in the same way I'd label Bergeron. He has no faults. You just keep looking for things he isn't elite at and you can't find anything.
Shot quality for? Against? Rates for and against? Possession? The PK? The PP? How about his qndCorsi, anything sketchy there? Point production? Penalty kill, powerplay?! ANYTHING?!!?!
Nothing. Nada. Zilch. He's one of only 2 true do-it-all defensemen.
But, we get the same small, western market problem that happens with Gio, Klefbom, and Tanev. He's great, but in a subtle way, and no one watches so he's overlooked. This, despite him scoring over 20 goals in each of the past two seasons. This kid is good, this kid can play, and if he's not in your top 10 D in the league, then you've probably (frank)ed something up.

he is a top 10 or 15 d man in the league - Upstate_isles
He's up there for sure. Still not worth all the assets that Seńor Gaines proposed. Gutting an organization for one player = you're gonna have a bad time |

How does trading Hamonic for a 1st rounder and 2 2nds equate to 4 1st rounders, a 3rd, and two top prospects? Hamonic also had 3 years left on his deal that was INSANELY cap friendly. - Dedshark
Cap friendly, yet again he's the worst player on the Flames too despite only playing 2nd pair minutes with TJ Brodie. What's your point? |

Actually, I didn't offer it. I said that's what Arizona would want. I'd personally stay away from him. |

You don't have to sell me on how good he is, I am wholly in agreement with you. My point was just that trading an insane package of players/picks/prospects for any single player in the league is putrid asset management. |

yea that proposal is insane I think its something like nelson pulock or toews a 1st and second and they can afford that but if he walks after next year woof and they cant say we will trade that for him if he resigns now cause of jt. he is awesome and could really hep this team, what would also help is jaro playing like last game the rest of the year |

Part of that trade would have to be conditional picks if it were made between now and June 30th.
Despite the fact that I would love to see him in an Isles jersey now, waiting until after July 1st (when we can talk extension prior to a trade) would be the logical move. I imagine that, if this happens, that it happens over the summer. |

So you're relaying a message from the Arizona front office? You didn't come up with this on your own AT ALL? John Chayka called you and said "I would want this from the Islanders. Post it on Hockeybuzz." |

McDonagh is a LH shot, right?
RHD who are set to become UFA's after this season:
- Green
- Gudbranson
- John Carlson (who, as much as I'm convinced will be locked up by the Caps, I would LOVE to see the Isles take a run at)
- That's about it |

If you're a GM, you wouldn't ask for the biggest haul possible for a top pair D you currently own with 1 extra year on his contract? C'Mon man. Again, I get it was 1 3-team trade, but Zona is going to want the same haul Sakic got for Duchene. |

they are tight on cap space for what he will want, I heard someone say they will find a way to resign him but according to tanner they have 4 top d man so they can lose one |

he also becomes a f.a at the same time as karrelson and doughty and as good as he is these are two guys that are as good if not better although again are you looking at offense d special teams or all combined? in any event three top true #1 guys all at the same time. it waters it down a bit as ask for too much and a team can go somewhere else unlike if hes the only one available |

Without Carlson their defense is pretty "meh". Either bad players, like Orpik, or guys that are promising but very young. I think they'll do what they need to in order to bring Carlson back. He's easily getting $6M+ though. |

No single team is giving up the amount of assets that NSH/OTT pooled together to send to COL. It's impossible for a franchise to part with that much talent.
I could go pointing out that NSH only had to trade Shea Weber and his putrid contract for PK Subban, or that NJD landed Hall for a middle-pairing defenseman. But those two scenarios and the three team trade are what they are....rare. |
