This current roster is frustrating to watch for me too. I'd like to see a FA acquisition with some size and one that doesn't hurt the long term. Not an easy task and probably not likely, given Hextall's propensity to draft and develop. It's tough to watch Schenn be 5th in the league in points while we wait for the trade to come around. And there's no guarantee Frost even makes the team. As to who the Flyers can pick up, I don't have an answer. I think most of those players won't be available.

I agree with you. In my opinion though, if Hextall doesn't take major risks outside of drafting, he's not doing his job. I mean, you would've basically telling me Hextall only does his job once a year, which is draft day...

Personally, I'm trying to not sign any of the people you bring up for 5-7 yrs 6-8 mil per year, which is most likely what they'll command, with all of these promising young players who will need big raises well within 3-4 seasons. Those FA contracts will become horrendous, and we already have 2 big contracts on the team.

All of those guys are upgrades, and all of those guys are "good enough to play on the Flyers", but none of those guys' prospective contracts are conducive to the future, which is what is so promising for this team in the first place.

I see nothing wrong with adding a 28 year old JvR and if we didn't trade Brayden Schenn to begin with, I wouldn't even be suggesting to sign a high priced UFA.

I felt like such a deal was way too soon for a player like Brayden Schenn being in his prime years. There was absolutely no reason to believe Schenn couldn't command such a deal a couple years later in his career. Maybe even better, considering one of our acquisitions is a salary dump.

And it all comes back to Schenn

I think they can still do something this year. I'll think they'll get better as the season goes on and are 50/50 to make the playoffs. The rookies and 2nd year pros will have a better 2nd half.
