they got 6 offers last week

none were low ball offers

I'd listen for sure.
It would have to be a serious WOW package though to consider it.
As tough as I have been on him, I would rather him mature and be coached-up so he realizes his full potential and leads the team to the promised land.

Any word of what the packages were?

If we just got rid of ROR all this would stop

- lulags

I don't get why it started. There are approximately 20 players on this roster who are varying shades of not good, and the fixation inevitably shifts to ROR, Eichel and Risto, the 3 players who are good.

So we should trade our good players because our bad players suck, so we have less top-end talent and more older mediocre players and mid-level 1sts.

I swear, this board is getting crazier and crazier

You're not going to get better players by moving the bad ones, because nobody wants the bad ones.

Not that I'm dead set on trading them, but Eichel, O'Reilly, and Ristolainen are the only players that are going to get any sort of return that has a remote chance of improving your roster. Kane does too, but even he's limited given the expiring contract.

So we should move the good ones to replace the good ones we're trading because we need good players, but we have to trade good players to get good players?

This logic is a snake eating its tail.

You package picks and retain salaries on the bad contracts to dump them, draft well, make smart signings (pouliot) and take advantage of cash-strapped teams to trade for nice players (scandella).

Sure, but who specifically is the trade bait on this team outside of Kane, Eichel, ROR, Risto to secure a player of value?
The rest are some combination under-performing and overpaid who have little value and won't realize a good player coming back, unless you take back a horrible contract --which is apparently what JBotts is trying to reverse.
It sounds good, but is very tricky to pull off with the reality of this roster.

I agree the Eichel trade talk is crazy. But its less about just wanting to trade our best players. To me its more about moving the high value assets that are not fitting and possibly getting back a player/players that would fit better or fill a greater need.

Reinhart and Oreilly fall into this category for me

Just asking, Do you think Eichel is better than any of these players?

Barkov
Seguin
Horvat
Monahan
Mackinnon
Nylander
Draisaitl
Scheifele

Those are comparable players to him in my opinion, and honestly I'd maybe slot him above Horvat and Nylander

IMO these are the only 2 realistic comparisons from an age perspective. Talent is hard to measure this early

Yeah, why not have an offensive minded 4th line? Many teams do it now. Why the frag do we have to have "muckers" or "energy guys"?
- lulags

Yep. Fighting is virtually a thing of the past in the NHL these days, so why have talentless players occupying an entire line? Bap, Bailey, and Fasching all have size and can throw a hit, so why not have a forth line with guys with speed and size?

That's where i get to with Eichel and it gets shut down. There's no greater need than a #1 center. I would argue that #2 with ROR is very important, and that Risto's salary and place on this team make him too valuable to move. More skill is needed for sure, but i don't think it makes sense to ship skill out to get skill. I guarantee that whoever you trade Eichel for will never be as good as Eichel.

Let attrition, smart trades and waivers take care of the underperformers. Start drafting well and find value in FA.
